Stepney Western Archive & Byker Phoenix Celebration: Newcastle Contemporary Art

Explore how Stepney Western, Harry Lawson's new exhibition at Newcastle Contemporary Art, has engaged with several archives in the North East and Byker and celebrate the launch of Byker Phoenix, a publication that accompanies the exhibition.

Guests will watch a screening of Harry Lawson's new film before enjoying an exhibition walkthrough and a discussion with Lawson himself and team members from AmberSide Collective and Ouseburn Trust which contributed archival material to the project.

The young people that star in the film, alongside cast members of CBBC's The Stables which was shot in Byker 20 years ago, will also be in attendance to compare their experiences.

And let's not forget about the launch of Byker Phoenix - a much-loved community magazine from the 1970s and 1980s that's being revived for a special edition featuring original articles and two new pieces Alex Niven and Kathryn Scanlan which will be read by young people from Stepney.
