Game Character Created by Concept Art Studio Atomhawk Features in a New Fantasy Adventure Experience at the Great North Museum: Hancock
Visitors to Newcastle University’s Great North Museum: Hancock’s ‘Myth Quest’ exhibition can learn about the process of game character creation, from a 2D concept to a 3D game-ready model, with thanks to award-winning concept art studio Atomhawk.
On display in the exhibition is a larger-than-life projection of Atomhawk’s “end-of-level boss” character, The Golem, along with a visual display detailing the art studio’s creative process from concept to development to realisation. Families visiting Myth Quest can enjoy learning about The Golem while exploring the wider exhibition.
Adam Goldwater, Museum Manager at the Great North Museum: Hancock, said: “The Great North Museum: Hancock produced a blockbuster exhibition, ‘Other Worlds: The Art of Atomhawk’, with the Atomhawk studio back in 2020, so it has been fantastic to work with the team on yet another blockbuster in the form of ‘Myth Quest’.”
Darren Yeomans, Studio Director of Atomhawk UK said: “The team at Atomhawk are thrilled to once again collaborate with the Great North Museum on this fun and educational interactive experience. Our artists had a blast, creating the artwork which helps bring the story behind the exhibition to life with the end-of-level Boss, which has pride of place at the end of the quest.
Part of Atomhawk’s mission is to encourage and support local schools, colleges and universities in highlighting the career opportunities in the computer games industry in the North East. Working with the Great North Museum on these type of fun and educational exhibitions helps us inspire the next generation of game developers.”
‘Myth Quest: Monsters and Mortals’ is a new and original fantasy adventure. Visitors are invited to take on the role of an adventurer, exploring myths and monsters throughout the museum to complete a variety of quests.
Visitors can choose to embark on one of three interactive adventures – through the Foggy Forest of Forgettings, the Serpentine Sea of the Sirens, or the Moody Mountains of the Monsters - to uncover secrets and become a true hero. Those who complete their quest will earn their place in the ‘Myth Quest Hall of Heroes’, where they will learn more about all the fascinating objects, magical animals, mythical creatures and quirky characters they have encountered on their journey.
The exhibition is complemented by a Gaming Space with two games by developers and headline sponsors Coatsink, for visitors to try out – PHOGS! and Astronimo.
Myth Quest: Monsters and Mortals runs until 3 September 2023.
