School Rules! - A New Immersive Spin on a Great Night Out

A new immersive party night combining the best bits of school life alongside a live band, comedy and games is launching at the Common Room in Newcastle upon Tyne on Friday, November 29th.

Comedian Steffen Peddie, singer Jennifer Hastings, and her band Electric Clubland have come together to create a new style of night out that will deliver a great time.

The pair met while performing on Sunday for Sammy back in 2016 and have been looking to collaborate on a show that entertains audiences with a touch of Cabaret.

When asked about the night, Jennifer explained “My dad worked in TV and theatre as a musical director and I grew up watching professional shows being produced from beginning to end. I now work in the music industry full time, and obviously, Steffen’s a comedian - we’ve pooled our resources but I think we’ve hit on a night that totally goes beyond just ‘“a comedian and band” night.”

Steffen continued, “This is where we blur the lines, you come in your school uniform, or the closest you have to it, the doors open at 7pm and the school bell to take you to assembly rings at 7:30pm… and woe betide anyone who is late!

Jennifer explained, “It’s a trip to school assembly that turns into something a bit more, a singalong to the school songs we all loved like Sing Hosanna and We Three Kings, the odd lesson or two, a visit from Santa, and then the best school disco where you can dance to the songs you know and loved growing up.”

Steffen replied, “That’s just the outline, we have some other things happening on the night to make it that little bit special, and the fact that you come to take part and will all be treated like the pupils at a school adds to the fun. Mind you we never had a full bar when I went to school, but it would have made maths more interesting!

The Common Room location is stunning, it's like a private school mixed with Hogwarts so you will be spirited back in years just entering the room. I can't wait for everyone to see what we have planned,” added Jennifer.
