Due to strong winds and a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office, NE1 and Newcastle City Council have made the difficult decision to cancel the New Year's Eve firework displays for safety reasons. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding.
The wait is over – fireworks are back on Newcastle’s Quayside this New Year’s Eve for the first time since 2019!
Last year, over 25,000 people turned out to celebrate, and this year’s display is set to be the biggest in the region. Whether you’re out with mates or planning a family night, it’s the perfect way to see in 2025 with a bang.
Not only are we giving you the traditional 'countdown to midnight' celebration but we'll also be running another display earlier in the evening at 6pm which is perfect for families! Don’t miss out!
Do I need tickets?
Nope! Both displays are completely free to attend and booking/wristbands aren’t required. Just head on down!
Where to watch
The designated viewing area stretches from under the Tyne Bridge along to the Millennium Bridge and at Baltic Square on Gateshead Quayside, offering the best spots to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the show.

The Quayside isn’t just about the fireworks—it’s packed with some of the city’s best restaurants and bars.
If you’re after a quick bite to eat, I Scream for Pizza has your cravings covered with loads of toppings to pick from. And of course, Greggs will be on-hand with sausage rolls and steak bakes aplenty throughout the night.
Want to wine and dine your nearest and dearest before the big display? Gusto and Uno’s are ideal if you fancy some delicious Italian food, but there’s Redhouse and The Broad Chare too if you’d prefer a proper pub meal.
Celebrating with a tipple or two by the Quayside is easy! Get cosy in St Vincent, or kick back with a cocktail in Victors. Slug & Lettuce and Pitcher & Piano will be keeping the party going after the big countdown, so you can dance your way into the new year.
How do I get there on public transport?
Central Station, Manors and Monument are all within a 15-20 minute walk of the Quayside – but they’ll be operating a revised and reduced service. Check out Metro’s New Year’s Eve timetable.
The majority of buses will be running a reduced service, with last departures between 6pm and 7pm on New Year’s Eve. Check out the New Year’s Eve timetables for Go North East, Stagecoach and Arriva buses.
What about parking?
Dean Street Multi-Storey Car Park, Manors Multi-Storey Car Park, Spillers Car Park and the Quayside Multi-Storey Car Park are all within walking distance of the Quayside.
Make sure to check the Newcastle City Council parking website for all opening times and charges during the festive season.
Please note that there will be road closures in place at the Quayside from 4pm on New Year’s Eve covering the area between the junction at Sandhill and the traffic lights at the junction between Sandgate and Milk Market. Access to the Quayside via Lombard Street, King Street and Broad Chare will also not be possible.
