Even if you find yourself a regular visitor to NE1, the city centre is changing constantly it can be hard to keep track of all the new bars, restaurants, and stores opening all the time. So we've decided to keep you up-to-date with an occasional roundup of great new destinations that might have passed you by!
Solstice, 5-7 Side
Solstice is the new restaurant by Kenny & Abbie Atkinson, sister venue to One Star Michelin and Four AA Rosette award-winning restaurant House of Tides, and is a fantastic addition to the Quayside’s thriving restaurant scene. Their carefully curated tasting menu offers between 15-18 dishes for £140 (wine pairing is available for £85) and is by all accounts an amazing spectacle. To begin, a series of snacks, then on to savoury dishes from both land and sea, finishing with the sweet section of desserts and petits fours.
Hugo Brasserie, 15 Side

Continuing along the Quayside, you’ll find the beautiful Chart House. Formally known as Charts, the venue has gone through a transformational refurb and offers a modern culinary journey through the Maritime Spice Route, featuring bespoke cocktails and a menu evoking taste of the Mediterranean, Arabian and South China seas, all complete with picturesque views overlooking the River Tyne.
Victors, 106 Quayside
Enjoy everyday luxury by the river with arrival of Victors to the Quayside. Heading to the top end of town, you’ll find DoughDaze, a nineties-nostalgic New York-style pizzeria (check the retro décor) with some traditional pizzas and some surprising toppings. Sides include an excellent mac’n’cheese, moreish desserts and a banging 90’s playlist to enjoy while you dine.
Bagel Factory, Eldon Square
Heading into Eldon Square, you’ll find one of the successful chain serving up an appetising range of bagels and toppings- everything from salt beef on poppyseed to halloumi melt on cheese & jalapeno. Studying in the city? Bagel Factory also offer 15% off the full menu all year round!
