7 minutes Last updated:
Cafe Andaluz

A lot of the excitement around NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week focuses on evening dining but don’t forget that many venues are also open at lunchtime and indeed, many of them offer special lunchtime and brunch deals that are fantastic value.

We’ve gathered together a few restaurants that are ideal places to spend a long, luxurious lunch or brunch. You could be on a shopping trip, or out making a day of it with friends. You could even be having a special lunch in the middle of a busy day at the office, so read on for some top-class early dining inspiration.

Café Andaluz, Grey Street

Brighten up your lunchtime with a taste of Spain, brought to Toon by Café Andaluz! This Grey Street hotspot is putting sad sandwiches to shame with their Restaurant Week deal offering three tapas at lunch for £15. From patatas bravas and pimientos de padrón to chorizo al vino and calamares fritos, you’ll be spoilt for choice! And if you fancy coming back later in the day, you can grab three tapas dishes and a dessert at dinner for only £20…

ASK Italian, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

Whether you’re out shopping, or just want to make the most of your lunch break, head to ASK Italian in Eldon Square to make the most of their Restaurant Week offer! With two courses for £20 or three for £25, you could be feasting on the likes of bruschetta, aubergine parmigiana ravioli and tiramisu before you know it.

Olive Kitchen Olive Kitchen

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

Since opening last year, family run café and bistro Olive Kitchen has been dishing up a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. If you’ve not had a chance to visit yet, then why not head down for Restaurant Week? They have a trio of deals and their £15 offer is ideal for those dining solo (including a toastie, side, dessert, and drink), while the £20 deal offers a savoury brunch for two (including a main, dessert, and drink). Their £25 offer, meanwhile, includes a main, side and drink for two. Phew – don’t say that Olive Kitchen don’t treat us well!

3SIXTY, Hadrian's Tower, Rutherford Street

How does lunch with stunning panoramic views of the city and beyond sound? Hadrian's Tower hotspot 3SIXTY has a trio of Restaurant Week deals offering all kinds of lovely lunch options. Dine on two or three dishes from their a la carte menu for £20 or £25 (Monday to Saturday from 12pm 'til 8pm) or go for a delightfully dainty afternoon tea (Monday to Saturday, 12pm to 8pm). Alternatively, book a table on Sunday and you could enjoy a hearty three-course Sunday lunch with all the trimmings for just £20.

The Broad Chare The Broad Chare

The Broad Chare, Broad Chare

The Broad Chare has a well-deserved reputation as an excellent pub and restaurant. Come for the well-kept beers and charming décor, stay for the delicious food! During Restaurant Week, they've got a great deal going with two courses for £15 or three for £20 from Monday to Friday between 12pm and 2:30pm. When that includes dishes like green split pea and oxtail broth, steamed chalk trout and vanilla cream, Yorkshire rhubarb and ginger cake, you won’t want to miss out.

EL&N, Fenwick, Northumberland Street+

Restaurant Week newcomer EL&N’s popularity isn’t just down to its instagrammable interiors – there’s a bangin’ brunch menu that’s worth a look too! And for their first Restaurant Week, the Fenwick venue has a £15 offer that’s perfect for taking advantage of at lunchtimes. You’ll get a sandwich or brunch dish (honey and berries French toast, anyone?) and one cake for a little over a tenner. Rest assured, sweet tooths will leave satisfied!

FRED'S @ Fenwick FRED'S @ Fenwick

FRED’s, Fenwick, Northumberland Street

Also new for January’s Restaurant Week is fellow Fenwick eatery FRED’s at. Their £15 deal means you’ll tuck into a delicious sandwich, salad, supreme croissant or fine patisserie – but if you feel like going fancy, their £20 offer includes afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco. Cheers!

I Scream for Pizza, Quayside

If the work diary is stacked and you don’t quite have time for a sit-down meal – fret not! I Scream for Pizza has you covered this Restaurant Week. Their £15 offer includes one 14” pizza, one dip and one of their iconic milkshake, screamies or sundaes so you’ll be able to power through the afternoon! Feeling more peckish, or feeding the family? Their £20 offer gets you two 14” pizzas with two dips, and the £25 deal gets you one 20” pizza, one portion of garlic knots and six chicken wings!

Hula Co Hula Co

Hula Co, Side

Say aloha to Hula Co at lunchtime this Restaurant Week! Enjoy two courses for just £15 at this tropical paradise, with options including Hawaiian fried chicken and potato sidewinders, Hawaiian katsu curry and rice, and Hula pineapple sponge! Heading there on Sunday? There’s even a Hawaiian Sunday roast to dig into too, including smokey lau lau greens and soy infused gravy!

The WonderBar, The Gate, Newgate Street

Based in the heart of the city centre, The WonderBar is perfectly placed to pay a visit to this Restaurant Week! Tuck into three courses for just £15, with starters like Cajun loaded hash browns and saucy chicken wings, mains like Cumberland sausage and mash or haddock and chips and desserts like sticky toffee pudding and homemade fruit crumble.

These are just a few of the restaurants offering some splendid deals during NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week and they all provide a perfect excuse to make your lunch something more special than a sandwich from the chiller cabinet and a disappointing coffee. So, get booking and make lunchtime more than a chore!
