Get to Know… Fenwick’s Restaurants

Last updated:

Newcastle’s Fenwick store is synonymous with great food; from the groaning shelves of delights in the Food Hall, to the delectable restaurants and bars which call the venerated shop home, foodies are extremely well catered for! Here, we get to know some of the restaurants, bars and cafes based within Fenwick's Food Hall and beyond that are bound to add some flavour to your next shopping trip.

Fenwick Food Hall

Saltwater Fish Company

If you’re confused by cod or boggled by bass, let the fishmongers at Saltwater Fish Company give you all the tools you need to create a delicious meal, with all kinds of delights on ice. Their fish bar is the place to be for ichthyophiles (fish lovers, in case you wondered!), where you’ll find expertly prepared fish and shellfish, including French fruits de mer platters, and an oyster bar. Daily specials mean the produce is never anything less than super fresh and seasonal.

Fuego

Lunch or dinner with friends is always made better by sharing and Fuego’s Mediterranean-inspired tapas dishes, crispy Napoli-style pizzas and lip-smacking Spanish charcuterie is among the best in the city. Their group sharing menus offer superb value for money, and vegetarians and coeliacs are well catered for too. Make it a proper meal out and relax with a cocktail or a glass of wine from their seasonally curated drinks list.

Porterhouse Butcher & Grill

As you’d expect from a location named ‘Porterhouse’, meat is king here! The team have a real passion for meat and its provenance and quality so you’re assured of tasty and tender steaks, chops, sausages and more, including their signature ‘big cuts’ of porterhouse, prime rib and chateaubriand. Plus, expert butchers are on hand to offer advice on any cut of meat you require to take home and cook yourself.

Mason + Rye

All good meals start with bread, so you’re in excellent hands with the master bakers at Mason + Rye. Freshly baked bread is just the tip of the iceberg though; be tempted by the most perfect little cakes, gorgeous cookies and inviting sweet treats, we dare you to leave with just one! Why not take a load off and enjoy some ‘me time’ in the cafe, where you can indulge without having to share?

Restaurants & Bars

Café 21

A brand that’s synonymous with luxury and quality deserves a restaurant that offers the same and Cafe 21 is one of the city’s most famous success stories. Under the helm of celebrated restaurateur Terry Leybourne, the 21 Hospitality Group brand is one of the most loved in the city. Cafe 21 is a stylish bistro where you’ll find delicious comfort food which packs a flavourful punch; from indulgent breakfasts to warming soups and hearty sandwiches, not to mention sumptuous patisserie and an excellent value Sunday menu too.

The Terrace

Located on Fenwick’s third floor you’ll find a wonderfully chilled-out space perfect for a bite to eat with all the family. Even the pickiest eater will find something to love; from light bites at lunchtimes to pre-packed lunch boxes, organic children’s meals and healthy salads and sarnies. Plus, there’s a carvery menu everyday from 11.30am!

Arthur’s Restaurant & Music Club

Arthur’s has become a real success story at Fenwick; conceived in celebration of their 140th birthday, the opulent supper club is the place to be for superb food and excellent entertainment. Live music serenades diners, but there’s no background piano tinkling in sight; think thrilling and exclusive performances from some of the region’s finest musicians, served alongside grown-up cocktails and ever-changing seasonal menus that will delight and inspire. A night out at Arthur’s is one to remember!

Café 140

Another addition to the Fenwick 140th birthday celebrations, Cafe 140 doffs a cap to some proper British classics. Using the best British ingredients, the nostalgic menu includes dishes like chicken Waldorf salad, prawn cocktail, peach melba and knickerbocker glory!

Mother Mercy

Their Cloth Market venue was voted as one of the 50 best cocktail bars in the UK, so it’s safe to say that Mother Mercy know a thing or two about mixed drinks. Expect expert mixologists and their signature-style cocktails, all served up with a distinctly Fenwick twist! Find them in the atrium on the lower ground floor, where you can enjoy premium spirits, a glass of wine (or fizz!) and turn the most ordinary day into a celebration!

Roof Thirty Nine

A city as beautiful as Newcastle deserves to be seen from on high and Fenwick’s rooftop restaurant and bar is the place to enjoy fabulous views, seasonal dining, bespoke cocktails and plenty of fresh air. Obviously alfresco dining isn’t always possible in Newcastle, so when the sun shines, head straight for Roof Thirty Nine!

No matter what you’re hungry for, whether you’re out for a shopping trip or looking for a special meal to cook at home, the foodie delights at Fenwick are sure to hit the spot!
