Everything You Need To Know About… Moosenwirt
The much-loved Alpine pop-up bar returns to the city this Christmas
Since it’s first appearance in back in 2022, Moosenwirt has become a quintessential part of Christmas in Newcastle, offering a cosy festive spot to enjoy a drink or two.
We’re happy to report that Moosenwirt is returning once again this Christmas, and we’ve got the lowdown how to make the most of it this festive season.
What is Moosenwirt?
It’s an Alpine-themed pop-up bar featuring a giant yurt handcrafted locally in Hexham and a log wood bar nestled under a stretch canopy with cosy seating and warming fire pits.
Operated by EVNT Inspirations, it’s a merry and magical spot for enjoying a variety of beers, mulled wine and cocktails with friends and family while local acoustic musicians keep visitors entertained.
For an extra-special festive treat, visitors can even book one of Moosenwirt’s luxe igloo domes or its Elk Lodge.
Where is Moosenwirt located?
It’s at the top end of Grey Street outside Lloyds Bank and a short walk from Grey’s Monument, Monument Metro Station and Newcastle’s Christmas Markets.
How long is it in place for?
Moosenwirt will be in place throughout the festive season, from Saturday 16th November until New Year’s Day 2025 but is closed on Christmas Day.
What time does it open?
It’s open daily from 10am to 11pm – ideal whether you want a warming drink after wandering around Newcastle’s nearby Christmas Markets or a late-night tipple or two with friends.
What are the luxe igloo domes and Elk Lodge?
The luxe igloo domes are heated glass igloos that can accommodate groups of up to 12. They’re available to book for 90-minute slots with table service throughout for £160 from Sunday to Friday and for £200 on Saturdays which is redeemable against drinks from Moosenwirt’s bar.
The Elk Lodge is snug little room seating 6 to 8 people that can be booked for 90 minutes for £60 Sunday to Friday and £80 on Saturdays which – like the igloo domes – is redeemable against drinks from the bar.
Do I need to book ahead?
If you’d like to cosy up in the Elk Lodge or igloo domes, booking ahead is definitely recommended as they’re always popular but otherwise walk-ins are welcome.
Are children allowed in Moosenwirt?
Yes, kids (and dogs!) are welcome but only until 7pm.
Is food available?
Moosenwirt doesn’t serve food itself, but you’re more than welcome to grab some grub from Newcastle’s nearby Christmas Markets to enjoy with a drink at the bar.
Moosenwirt is open from 16th November to 1st January between 10am and 11pm. For more information or to book the Elk Lodge or igloo domes, visit the official Moosenwirt website.
