Everything You Need to Know About… Fenwick Christmas Window
Fenwick’s famous Christmas Window is back this November
There are certain things that sum up the festive season in Newcastle: the Christmas market, the ice-skating rink at Life Science Centre and – of course – Fenwick Christmas Window.
Ahead of the big reveal this year, we’ve gathered up all the info you need to know about this Yuletide must-do.
What is the Fenwick Christmas Window?
If you know, you know! But if you don’t, it’s a festive display that Newcastle department store Fenwick installs in its Northumberland Street-facing window every year in the run up to Christmas.
It’s been happening since 1971 with a different theme each year and is a festive tradition here in Newcastle, drawing huge crowds every Christmas.
What is this year’s theme?
This year's theme is 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' by author, illustrator and The Observer political cartoonist Chris Riddell. A reimagining of the classic Christmas carol, the display tells the heart-warming tale of Foggy - a partridge whose Christmas wish is for his pear tree to grow - and is accompanied by a custom recording of 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' by local folk band The Unthanks.
When is the big reveal?
The big reveal is happening at 6:30pm on Sunday 3rd November. However, only a small number of people will be in attendance and a section of Northumberland Street will be cordoned off during the reveal.
Don’t worry though as Fenwick Christmas Window will be open for public viewing from Monday 4th November and there’s the opportunity to be there during the big reveal if you’re lucky enough to nab tickets.
How do I attend the big reveal?
Fenwick is hosting a ticket ballot which people can enter to be in with the chance of securing a family ticket for four people.
The ballot is open from Wednesday 9th October to 11:59pm on Tuesday 15th October and 200 free tickets are up for grabs. Ticket winners will be chosen at random and notified by email on Thursday 17th October.
To enter the Christmas Window ticket ballot, visit the Fenwick website.
What if I can’t get tickets?
If you’re not lucky enough to get tickets, you can always catch the big reveal live via Fenwick’s YouTube, TikTok and Instagram channels at 6:30pm on Sunday 3rd November.
And, of course, you can always pop along and have a gander when it’s open to the public the day after the big reveal!
How long will Fenwick Christmas Window be in place for?
It’ll be in place throughout the festive season – so plenty of time to see it!
It wouldn’t be festive season in Newcastle without Fenwick Christmas Window and we’re super excited to see what they have in store for us all. The only question left is – what will this year’s theme be?!
Fenwick Christmas Window will be open to the public from Monday 4th November and throughout the festive season. For more information and to enter the ticket ballot, visit the Fenwick website.
