In The Park Festival

Newcastle's leafy Leazes Park, on the north-western edge of the city centre, has a hectic summer ahead, with a busy calendar of festivals to suit all tastes.

One of the biggest is going to be In The Park, a brand-new music festival bringing some top-class musical talents to Leazes Park this May.  We’ve researched all the details so you know exactly what to expect from this fantastic two-day event.

What is In The Park Festival?

In The Park is a new two-day festival in the heart of the city, focusing on quality singer-songwriter-style artists and with an inclusive family vibe. The two days of the event take place either side of Lost Minds Festival, an event from the same production team which focuses on the dance scene and which we’ll inform you about soon.

Where is it happening?

The festival is taking place in Leazes Park, the lovely leafy green space that is Newcastle’s oldest park. A tranquil place of lakes, gardens and bandstands usually, for a few days this summer it will become a hotbed of festival fun.

When is it happening?

The festival takes place on the May Day bank holiday weekend, on Friday and Sunday, with Saturday given over to the aforementioned Lost Minds event. Friday runs from 4pm to 10.30pm (last entry at 7pm) while on Sunday it’s 3pm – 10pm (last entry 6.30pm).

Which acts are playing?

The Friday night show is headlined by Tom Grennan, the London-based singer-songwriter whose blend of pop, R&B influences and heartfelt songs has won him a huge audience in the years since his breakthrough in 2020 with his Evering Road album. He’ll be supported by upcoming artist Brooke Combe and a special guest that’s yet to be announced. Meanwhile, on the Sunday, it’s the turn of Rag’N’Bone Man, one of the biggest homegrown artists in recent years, whose background in hip-hop gives an edge to his soulful, R&B-tinged confessionals. 5onger, Red Rum Club and local lad Liam Fender will be his supports.

Is there an age limit?

Due to overwhelming demand to make this event family-friendly, the organisers have decided to open up admission to anyone aged 11 and above (although naturally, under 18s will need a responsible adult). Challenge 25 will be in operation too, so do take your ID if you’re lucky enough to need it.

Will there be food and drink?

There will be a wide range of cuisines on offer, and well-stocked bars. There will also be fairground rides, photobooths, stalls and a 'secret garden'.

How much are tickets and how do I book?

Tickets cost £55.95 for each day of the festival and VIP tickets are available for £96.05 and include fast track into the festival and access to a VIP area, private bar and catering, a viewing deck and posh loos - both can be booked via the In The Park Festival website. There's also the option to buy two-day (£96.30 plus booking fee) or three-day (£140.85) ticket that include admission to Lost Minds Festival too which can be booked via Skiddle.

In The Park looks like a fresh, exciting addition to the Newcastle festival calendar and here’s hoping it’s the first of many. With a singer-songwriter style bill and a family-friendly ticket policy it should be a fun, laid back couple of days in one of the city’s loveliest parks.
