15 Best Halal-Friendly Restaurants in Newcastle

Here’s where to find the tastiest halal-friendly food in the city centre

Last updated:

Following a halal diet and dining out in Newcastle upon Tyne? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of some of the city centre’s best halal-friendly restaurants and cafes.

Whether you’re in the mood for Turkish, Indian or Malaysian cuisine or perhaps a tasty burger, a hearty brunch or fast food on the go, Newcastle’s diverse dining scene has something to suit halal diners.

My Delhi, Clayton Street

As one of Newcastle’s favourite Indian restaurants, a delicious meal is guaranteed at My Delhi (pictured above) – and all of its food is halal too, with ingredients sourced from trusted local suppliers. Dine on tasty street plates and hearty roadside curries and don’t miss out on its bottomless curry club – 90 minutes of non-stop food served up every Sunday.

Nando’s, The Gate

Nando’s has three locations in Newcastle city centre, but its branch at The Gate is the only one that serves halal-friendly food. The restaurant chain is, of course, famous for its flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken but there are plenty of burger, salad, pitta and wrap options to enjoy too.

Victors Victors

Victors, Quayside

Victors might not offer a full halal menu, but every chicken dish the Quayside restaurant serves is suitable for those following a halal diet with food like popcorn chicken, Yuzu lemon chicken and a hot honey chicken burger up for grabs. Victors also offers the option of a halal ribeye steak – simply call ahead to let them know in advance.

German Doner Kebab, Newgate Street

In the mood for a hearty kebab-based feast? Look no further than the Newgate Street branch of Berlin-born brand German Doner Kebab where all the food is 100% halal. Choose from classic beef and chicken kebabs or a range of veggie and plant-based options, plus plenty of tempting sides and sauces to complete your meal.

Red Mezze, Leazes Park Road

The traditional Turkish cuisine at Leazes Park Road hotspot Red Mezze comes highly rated and there’s plenty for halal diners to enjoy, from chicken shawarma to lamb iskender plus lots of hot and cold mezze. Make sure to try their daily lunch special, offering a starter and main for a little over a tenner.

Wingstop Wingstop

Wingstop, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

One of Eldon Square’s most recent new additions, Wingstop is a must for diners on the hunt for tasty chicken in Newcastle. All of its chicken is halal (with halal certificates available upon request) and there’s tonnes of tasty fare to choose from – wings, tenders and burgers included.

Pho, Grainger Street

For halal-friendly Vietnamese eats, new Grainger Street eatery Pho is the place to head. The vast majority of its chicken dishes are halal – including its chicken summer rolls, chicken curries, chicken pho soups and kids’ chicken nuggets – but they recommend speaking to a server for a full rundown of halal dishes before ordering.

EL&N, Fenwick, Northumberland Street

Iconic department store Fenwick is full of fantastic dining options but we’d definitely recommend checking out EL&N for brunch and lunch. Its entire menu is halal and any bacon used in dishes is turkey bacon or macon (aka mutton bacon). Try one of their signature “supreme croissants” – you won’t regret it!

Khai Khai Khai Khai

Khai Khai, Queen Street

Khai Khai’s delicious Indian comfort food has earned it a top spot among Newcastle’s restaurants and even celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is a fan! Halal diners can rest assured that all food served at Khai Khai is halal certified too. Don’t miss out their Old Delhi butter chicken – chef Gordon said it was one of the best curries he’d ever had after dining there.

Jollibee, Northumberland Street

For fast and tasty food on the go, Jollibee is a must-try for halal diners. All chicken served at the Philippines-born chain is halal – including its signature Chickenjoy fried chicken – and many of its UK restaurants, the Newcastle branch included, ensure that all meat served is halal and that no bacon or pork items appear on their menus.

Heavenly Desserts, Newgate Street

Got a sweet tooth to satisfy? Then head to Heavenly Desserts where all dishes and drinks served are halal certified. From brownies and baklava to crepes and their signature croffles (that’s a delicious croissant-waffle hybrid to the uninitiated!), there are tonnes of sweet treats to choose from plus plenty of refreshing drinks to wash them down with. Mango lassi or mojito mocktail anyone?

Chilli Padi Chilli Padi

Chilli Padi, Leazes Park Road

Specialising in Malaysian street food cooked with halal meat, it’s no wonder Chilli Padi is a hotspot for halal diners in Newcastle. Its extensive menu features plenty of authentic Malaysian fare – from mee goreng and rendang curries to laksa and hotpots – plus several vegetarian and vegan dishes too.

Aneesa’s Buffet Restaurant, Forster Street

For a feast like no other, Aneesa’s is a must. The all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant specialises in Indian and Punjabi cuisine – think starters like samosas and pakoras, curry mains and sides including rice and naans – but there are pizzas, Chinese dishes and classic desserts to enjoy too. And it’s all halal!

Dream Burger, Clayton Street

As its name suggests, Dream Burger is a hotspot for tasty burgers in Newcastle city centre and – better yet – all of its food is halal too. Choose from juicy Angus beef burgers or succulent chicken burgers and team with sides like loaded fries, onion rings and wings for the ultimate all-American halal-friendly feast.

Olive Kitchen Olive Kitchen

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

Another must-try Newcastle brunch spot for halal diners, Olive Kitchen opened its doors on Marlborough Crescent in 2024 and has rightfully earned itself a load of local fans thanks to its tasty food. Try classic breakfasts (served with chicken sausages and turkey bacon), topped toasts and pancakes or stop by for lunch to enjoy sandwiches, burgers, paninis and more.

There are plenty of halal dining options in Newcastle city centre – from acclaimed Indian restaurants and exciting global cuisines to casual burger joints and brunch spots. So, where will you be trying next?
