Autumn 2024: 13 New Hotspots to Visit in Newcastle

A round-up of new businesses that’ve set up shop in the city over the past few months

Last updated:

We’re always welcoming amazing new bars, restaurants and shops here in Newcastle and the past few months have been no different.

From big-name brands to independent small businesses, we’ve rounded up a selection of new city centre hotspots for you to discover.

Roost, Collingwood Street

Get your cluck on at new restaurant Roost which opened its doors on Collingwood Street over the summer. With everything from chicken kebab and shawarma to chicken wings and burgers, it’s perfect if you’re partial to poultry and boasts a brilliant cocktail menu too. For the true chicken fanatics, Roost even offers a bottomless wing deal – as many chicken wings as you can scoff in 90 minutes for just £30 per person. Chick-a-licious!

St James' STACK St James' STACK

St James’  STACK, Strawberry Place

Container village venue kings STACK made a welcome return to the city this August, opening a new joint at the iconic St James’ Park. Nestled in the shadow of the stadium, it’s the official fan zone of Newcastle United and sure to become a matchday hotspot but it’s not just for football fans. With delicious street food from vendors including Soju & Goji, Bao Down and Acropolis alongside kids’ entertainment, live music and Kroud Karaoke, St James’ STACK has something for everyone.

Komono Accessories, Grainger Market

A familiar face at North East markets, Komono Accessories now boasts a brick-and-mortar shop in Newcastle's iconic Grainger Market. Owners and sisters Cora and Carol curate a delightful selection of quirky and cute Asian-inspired accessories, selling everything from earrings and bracelets to socks and headbands – ideal for gifts or simply treating yourself to something unique and fun.

The Vampire Rabbit, Collingwood Street

Paying homage to the local legend of the same name, The Vampire Rabbit is a classy cocktail bar situated in a gorgeous Grade-II listed building on Collingwood Street. Take a seat in its stunning main bar or head downstairs to its quirky snug room or vault room to sip on creative concoctions like the Ginger Sidecar and Pear Drop Martini. Its cocktail menu is curated by master mixologist Connor Hughes so you know you’re in good hands.

Sephora, Eldon Square

Let’s just say the hype was real when international beauty brand Sephora announced it was opening a store in Eldon Square – just one of a handful in the UK. A haven for lovers of makeup, the “beauty playground” stocks brands like Glossier, Rare Beauty and Makeup By Mario alongside offering a range of treatments - facials, eyebrow tinting and hair styling included.

Yummie Yogurts Yummie Yogurts

Yummie Yogurts, Grainger Market

If you’ve yet to embrace the frozen yogurt craze, then now is your chance thanks to Yummie Yogurts setting up shop in Grainger Market. The eatery keeps it simple with four flavours of frozen yogurt (original, hazelnut, mango and coconut) which guests can customize with an array of toppings and serves up delicious Belgian waffles that, like their fro-yo, can be customised to your liking. Perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth!

Nudo Malatang, Low Friar Street

Formerly known as Nudo Noodle House, Nudo Malatang has a plan to bring malatang – a bold, spicy and customisable Chinese broth – to the masses. Guests become the chef as they choose from a range of fresh ingredients – including noodles, meat, seafood and vegetables and broth bases – to create their own perfect bowl of malatang. Throw in a couple of their small eats and you’ve got a feast made in heaven.

Lagom, Monk Street

In need of a caffeine fix? Look no further than new coffee bar Lagom which opened its doors on Monk Street back in June. From cortados to cappuccinos, their coffee connoisseurs have everything you need for a caffeine kickstart plus a range of tasty pastries, sweet treats and ciabatta sandwiches to complement your cuppa.

The Newgate Social The Newgate Social

The Newgate Social, The Gate

Set to become one of the best grassroots music venues in Newcastle, The Newgate Social launched in late summer with a set from Newcastle’s very own Andrew Cushin. As it settles into its home at The Gate, the venue promises to be the place to discover future music royalty with a packed schedule of gigs shining a light on local, underground and up-and-coming acts.

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

Listen up, early bird diners – we've just found your new favourite breakfast and brunch and spot with Marlborough Crescent cafe Olive Kitchen. Open from morning to mid-afternoon, its menu offers plenty to tantalise your taste buds from breakfast paninis and hash bowls to toast topped with the likes of avocado, seasoned steak and spiced masala beans. With a range of burgers, sandwiches and loaded fries it’s great for lunchtime dining too.

Sostrene Grene Sostrene Grene

Søstrene Grene, Eldon Square

If Scandi chic is your kind of thing, then a trip to Søstrene Grene is a must. The family-owned, Denmark-born brand sells a range of furniture, textiles, kitchenware and home accessories all built around evoking ‘hygge’ - a Danish concept embodying cosiness. Take a wander around its gorgeous Eldon Square store and add a little hygge to your home.

Minoso, Eldon Square

Love all things cute and kitsch? Get set to shop ‘til you drop at new Eldon Square store Minoso. Packed to the rafters with homeware, tech, toys, accessories, beauty products and stationery in a range of cute themes including Hello Kitty, Care Bears, Disney and Pokemon, it’s perfect for treating yourself or grabbing a fun gift for friends and family.

Street Food Sri Lanka Street Food Sri Lanka

Street Food Sri Lanka, Grainger Market

Brought to you by the same team behind Quayside restaurant URY, Street Food Sri Lanka joined Grainger Market’s community of food vendors back in May. As its name suggests, authentic Sri Lankan cuisine is their specialty with tempting traditional treats like lamb lamprais, seafood koththu and vegetable roti cooked up by a team of talented chefs. Stop by for a lunch that’s a little out of the ordinary and wash down with a cup of their authentic Ceylon tea.

From shopping for cute accessories or high-end makeup to dining on delicious food or trying creative cocktails, these Newcastle newcomers are definitely places to put on your must-visit list – happy shopping, sipping and eating!
