Tyneside Cinema Throws Open its Doors For a Weekend of Outdoor Family Fun, a Spectacular Craft Fair, and a Host of £5 Screenings this August Bank Holiday

Beloved local venue the Tyneside Cinema is throwing open its doors to Newcastle and the North East this August Bank Holiday Weekend for a special Tyneside Summer Party.

Billed as an ‘unmissable extravaganza’ of family friendly activities - many of which are free - the cinema is also hosting its first ever craft fair featuring a variety of local artists, and the latest edition of its ever-popular poster and merchandise event, which allows Tyneside customers to pick up film memorabilia from the cinema’s extensive archive.

The cinema will also be screening a variety of big screen classics across the weekend for as little as £5, and is promising plenty of other surprises as part of an event billed as a blockbuster selection of fun for all the family.

Activity taking place at the Tyneside across the 23-26 August weekend includes:

A variety of free activities taking place in the lively atmosphere of High Friar Lane on Sunday and Monday, which will be blocked off for attendees, including:

  • Face Painting
  • Games
  • Scavenger Hunts
  • Live Music
  • Food stalls, and delicious specials on offer from the Tyneside Bar Café and Vicolo

A vibrant indoor market on the second and third floors of the cinema on Sunday and Monday, featuring:

  • Local artists and creators
  • A Tyneside Cinema Poster & Merchandise Room
  • Vintage clothes stalls

A special discounted film programme taking place across the whole weekend, featuring a variety of big screen classics, recent favourites and cult hits, with tickets starting from just £5, including:

  • Big Screen Classics from Raiders of the Lost Ark to the second Star Wars Trilogy
  • Family Friendly Screenings, including Muppet Treasure Island accompanied by Swashbuckling Storytime with Seven Stories
  • A special beach themed Don’t Go into the Water! Marathon, with all films priced at just £5
  • £5 Films including 10 Things I Hate About You, Challengers, Stop Making Sense and more
  • A host of exclusive activities for Tyneside Cinema members, including a special drinks reception, and £5 screenings of classics like Pulp Fiction, In the Mood for Love, and Heat, which is being shown on 35mm at the cinema (with regular priced tickets available for non-members)

Talking about the cinema’s plans for the weekend, Tyneside CEO and custodian Nic Greenan says “I’m so excited for us to be hosting this event. As part of our commitment to being a more accessible venue and making families welcome, we will be offering discounted tickets. It will be a real treat to see the venue used in alternative ways and hosting artists from around the region.”

More details about the Tyneside Summer Party can be found here, and the event also has a Facebook Page which will be used to keep attendees up-to-date with all the latest details.
