Sold Out Great North 10K is This Sunday and It's the Biggest Yet

The AJ Bell Great North 10k is this Sunday, 7 July and it’s the biggest staging of the North East’s biggest and most popular 10k yet with 6,000 runners to meet at the Central Motorway start line this Sunday.

Participants are getting ready to ‘Run the Toon’ with an iconic start line, unbeatable city views, and the ultimate finish line feeling.

Official starters announced – Newcastle United Women’s Team players will join us on Sunday morning to set each wave of runners off and encourage runners as they take on the 10k across Newcastle.

We’ll be joined by Newcastle United Women’s Team members: Katie Barker, Kacie Elson, Daisy Burt and Becky Ferguson.

Fresh from their impressive league cup win, the teammates will bring along their cup trophy and celebrate their promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation CEO, said: “Anticipation is really building for the Great North 10k and we are looking forward to supporting everyone taking on the challenge.

A real highlight for us all at Newcastle United Foundation will be to cheer on our very own black and white wave of runners who are fundraising to further our charity work across the North East. Their support will be invested back into our community through education, employability, sport and wellbeing programmes for people of all ages and abilities.

I would like to wish all runners the best of luck and hope they enjoy being part of this incredible event on Sunday."

Anna Thompson, Event Manager and Race Director for the AJ Bell Great North 10k, said: “We’re excited to be back with the popular City Centre route for the second year, and we’re delighted it’s our biggest Great North 10k to date, with 6,000 runners joining us on Sunday for the 15th staging of the event.

The atmosphere is fantastic and really helps build the excitement in the lead up to the Great North Run, which is just two months to go - taking place on Sunday, 8 September.

Many people use the Great North 10k as a training opportunity ahead of the Great North Run, while others who missed out on a Great North Run place will enjoy sharing the same Central Motorway start line and getting the opportunity to run across the Tyne Bridge twice, before finishing on the Town Moor behind Exhibition Park.”

The 10k city centre route showcases some of the most legendary sights in Newcastle and we look forward to welcoming some of the region’s top club runners and all those taking on the 10k for a personal challenge, for fun, or to fundraise.”

With music and charity cheer points along the way, plenty of spectators cheering your name, and a finish line DJ to bring the party vibes to the Town Moor it’s set to be a great day.
