Newcastle's Newest Live Music Bar Officially Open as Fans Flock to 'Secret' Set from Global Star
The vibrant music scene of Newcastle has a new pulse with the official opening of Newgate Social, a live music bar in the heart of the city.
The venue launched with a bang on August 30, offering an unforgettable evening headlined by none other than Newcastle’s own Andrew Cushin, whose secret set was a highlight for local music fans.
Cushin, who has gained international acclaim with tours across Europe and the United States, returned to his roots to celebrate the opening of this exciting new venue. His connection to Britpop icon Noel Gallagher, who recognised Cushin’s talent early on, added an extra layer of significance to the evening. With his debut album Waiting for the Rain earning widespread praise, Cushin’s performance set the tone for what promises to be a landmark venue in Newcastle’s live music scene.
In his own words, Cushin emphasised the importance of venues like Newgate Social: "Grassroots venues are the birthplace of great music. Without these smaller, intimate spaces, artists like myself would struggle to achieve success. They are integral to the music industry as a whole."
Located just a stone’s throw from the historic site of Newcastle’s legendary Mayfair ballroom, The Newgate Social is poised to become a key player in the city’s cultural landscape. Cheryl Flowers, Venue Manager, expressed her excitement about the venue’s future: "We are thrilled with the success of Newgate Social's launch. It was an incredible night featuring two outstanding support artists, Keiran Bowe and Annabel Pattinson, who set the stage beautifully for our headliner, Andrew Cushin. Newgate Social is more than just a venue; it’s a haven for music lovers right in the heart of the city. Our upcoming gigs promise an eclectic mix of genres, showcasing both grassroots talent and established artists."
Looking ahead, Newgate Social is committed to supporting the local live music scene by dedicating future nights to showcasing grassroots artists, providing them with a stage to perform and grow their fan base. This initiative reflects the venue's mission to nurture emerging talent and ensure that Newcastle becomes a thriving hub for live music.
In the coming weeks, Newgate Social will continue to host a diverse lineup of events, including the Elevate 22 showcase on September 6, featuring Pretty Velvet, Northern Hospitality, and Last Orders, as well as performances by B-Hive on September 13, Dope Sick Fly on September 20, and The National Anthems on September 27.
