Newcastle’s Christmas Lights Switch On with Capital Radio

105-106 Capital FM and Newcastle City Council are delighted to announce a continuation of last year’s partnership to switch on the 2013 Christmas lights, on Grey Street in Newcastle.
This year’s event, which attracts up to 8,000 people, will see Capital FM’s Bodg, Matt and JoJo joined on stage by ex-Newcastle United legend Steve Harper on Thursday 21 November from 5.30pm.
After such an emotional final year with Newcastle United, signing off from the city after 18 years as goalkeeper and raising over £325,000 for charity, Steve’s confirmation tops off an unforgettable 12 months for the legendary player.
Breakfast hosts Bodg, Matt and JoJo will be also be joined on stage by the winners of the annual Children’s Christmas Light competition, whose winning designs are currently being made up and will be showcased on Nelson Street throughout the festive period. There will also be a host of entertainment in the build up to make sure the whole city is in the festive spirit.
Kim Miljus, Managing Director of 105-106 Capital FM, said: 'Everyone here at Capital are thrilled to be working as media partners on one of the flagship events in the North East calendar. We are working hard to make sure we not only match the quality of last year, but exceed it and we are delighted to be able to announce Steve Harper as our guest. He has been such a fantastic servant to the local area and this is our city’s chance to say a final thank you for his 18 loyal years.'
Also attending the event will be the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Margaret Wood. She said: 'We’re delighted that we could continue with the Christmas lights this year. It’s been a difficult economic year for a lot of people of Newcastle so it’s important that we continue this great tradition of kick starting the festive period.'
