Citibase opens second SME business centre in Newcastle to meet growing demands of the ‘new economy’
A new fully-serviced business centre has been launched in the historic Milburn House on Dean Street, central Newcastle. Citibase Newcastle Dean Street, will provide much needed office space on flexible terms to the city’s growing number of small and medium sized businesses and start-ups. It will be Citibase’s second centre in Newcastle, with the original centre based nearby on Mosley Street.
Located in a Baroque-style, Grade II-listed Edwardian building, the new Citibase centre will cater for businesses who require more freedom than traditional office leases offer, yet without sacrificing a central location.
Fully equipped business suites are available in a variety of sizes and on a range of flexible terms within the centre, which will also offer 24 hour access, meeting room facilities, social meeting breakout areas, a professional reception and a range of internet and telecoms packages. There will also be bike storage, lockers, showers and changing facilities.
Citibase CEO, Steve Jude, says: “The world of work has changed forever and it is time that offices in our cities adapted to cater for the growing number of start-ups and SMEs who require more flexibility.
“Both our Newcastle centres are perfect examples of what members of this ‘new economy’ require. These business men and women do not want to risk their long term stability by committing to long and often expensive office leases and overheads. Instead they demand office space with a range of facilities, in a central location, with more flexible lease terms than can be secured at most traditional offices.
“Even the availability of the most advanced technology, like superfast broadband, can make or break a start-up or SME and therefore will affect their choice of office provider. That’s why our first Newcastle centre in Mosley Street was the first commercial building in Newcastle to offer inexpensive superfast broadband through the Go Digital initiative run by the city council.”
The unique Dean Street property was originally designed to mimic the bow of a ship pointing towards the River Tyne. It features stunning communal areas with art nouveau tiles, mosaic floors and painted panels and allows for floods of natural light in the dramatic atria. Citibase will operate across two floors while customers will also have access to the communal facilities.
In the heart of Newcastle, the new business centre sits between the cathedral and the castle keep, close to a range of bars, restaurants and shops. It’s also near to Quayside, and has fantastic transport links, with Central Station and the Metro around five minutes away.
Citibase offers customers over 50 sites throughout the UK, including Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester, London and within the M25, Cambridge, Bristol, Leeds and Edinburgh.
