Child Brain Injury Trust Partners with Newcastle Law Firm to Support North East Families

National charity the Child Brain Injury Trust has appointed Newcastle law firm Burnetts Solicitors LLP as a partner in its newly restructured nationwide Legal Support Service, enabling families and young people in the North East who are affected by childhood-acquired brain injury (ABI) to access free, independent legal advice.

When a child acquires a brain injury, the effects can be life-altering. Families are often left facing difficult legal decisions about education, care, medical treatment, and financial security—often with little guidance. The Child Brain Injury Trust’s Legal Support Service bridges this gap by offering expert legal advice from specialist partners as well as independent guidance tailored to each family’s needs, ensuring no family has to face the legal challenges of childhood-acquired brain injury alone.

Burnetts Solicitors, based at Citygate in Newcastle, has a team specialising in providing legal support in cases of catastrophic injuries including brain injuries.  It is led by Partner and Brain Injury Lead Paul Brown who has over 20 years of experience supporting children and their families following serious brain injuries and is Chairman of Headway Wearside as well as Secretary for the Northern Acquired Brain Injury Forum.

Working alongside Paul as part of Burnetts’ specialist Serious Injury and Court of Protection team are Mick Laffey - Serious Injury Partner and Caroline Manningham - Court of Protection Partner.

Paul said:

We are passionate about getting the best possible rehabilitation and support for families following brain injuries using our network of leading therapists, consultants and case managers. This is a labour of love for us and so to work alongside this amazing charity is an honour.”

Amelia Larard, Head of Marketing and Fundraising for the Child Brain Injury Trust said:

We are delighted to have Burnetts Solicitors as one of our chosen Legal Support Service Partners in the North East, supporting our work at Great North Children’s Hospital. This partnership strengthens our support for families within the region, providing a strong collaborative approach will ensure that families affected by childhood acquired brain injury have access to expert legal services, should they need them.”

Legal needs can arise quickly and unexpectedly after a child sustains a brain injury. Immediate access to the right advice can be life changing. Families may need legal guidance on anything from education rights and serious injury claims, to housing support and financial entitlements and by helping families make informed decisions, the Child Brain Injury Trust’s Legal Support Service empowers them to plan for the future with confidence and clarity.
