Argentine Steak Restaurant Gaucho Set to Launch in Newcastle March 2023

Serving arguably the best quality steak in the world, Gaucho is set to open its first North East restaurant in Newcastle in March 2023. Bringing the restaurant group’s vibrancy, elegance, and passion for the cultural and culinary heritage of modern Argentina, Gaucho’s Newcastle site on Market Street will have 140 covers as well as two private dining rooms, one seating up to six diners and the other seating up to twelve.

With famous restaurants across London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool, Gaucho first opened its doors in London in 1994, taking inspiration from Argentina with their vision of bringing the world’s best steak to London.

The restaurant will showcase Gaucho’s recent evolution in menus and design, inspired by modern Argentina and its global influences. A timely addition to the city’s gastronomic fare, Gaucho Newcastle will become the first restaurant in the North East to serve exclusively carbon-neutral beef and embodies CEO Martin Williams’ vision for the way that restaurants should operate responsibly both socially and environmentally.

Gaucho Newcastle will be offering a lunch menu, evening à la carte, group sharing, group feast, as well as Gaucho’s Sunday Sessions - a bottomless Sunday Roast with live music each week. Alongside an unrivalled selection of 100% carbon-neutral steaks from Black Angus cattle, highlights from the à la carte menu include Shrimp Ceviche, Marinated Pork Matambre, Pasta Alla Norma as a vegan option and Salted Dulce de Leche Cheesecake from the dessert menu.

Sourcing top quality produce is a key concern for the Gaucho team. Gaucho’s Argentine Beef is sourced from cattle which have enjoyed a life roaming in vast pastures at specially selected pampas farms. The cattle graze on seventeen distinct types of grass from the Pampas provinces – with everything they eat being 100% natural. With the equivalent of four rugby pitches’ worth of space per cow, they enjoy a lush, free-range lifestyle in an area famed for its fertile soil.

Gaucho takes pride in the relationships they have with their suppliers and understanding the supply chains that brings their ingredients. Part of this commitment is to work closely with local North East suppliers. FYTO, based in Hoult’s Yard, is Newcastle's first and only hydroponic vertical micro-farm, who strive to deliver the freshest and most flavourful produce with the least environmental impact. While ecologically minded Hepple Spirits, based in the Northumbrian hills, has been selected to bring their wild botanicals to Gaucho’s bar.

Rare Restaurants Founder and CEO Martin Williams said “We are delighted to be bringing the Gaucho experience to the North East, where the restaurant will serve some of the finest beef in the world, complemented by a broad food and wine offering in a contemporary setting, inspired by Modern Argentina and all of its global influences. With Newcastle having such a rich historic culture and a diverse food scene, we feel the Gaucho brand and ethos will sit perfectly here.”

Over the last five years, Gaucho is proud to have supported and raised over £1m for charitable causes in collaboration with their charity partners through CSR activities and projects. To mark Gaucho’s arrival in Newcastle, Gaucho has pledged a £10k donation to the Sir Graham Wylie Foundation and NUFC Foundation Community Hub NUCASTLE, as well as hosting an opening party in aid of these charities in March 2023.

Commenting on supporting the two foundations, Martin Williams said: “As a business that cares and is hugely committed to supporting communities, both the Sir Graham Wylie Foundation and NUFC Foundation Community Hub NUCASTLE align with our CSR impact vision and values, part of which is our belief that everyone should have chances in life to develop and grow. We’re delighted to be working with these charities that strive to create opportunities for people who would otherwise lack them through education, sport, personal development, and wellbeing programmes”.

The restaurants which make up the Gaucho collection each celebrate their uniqueness, allowing for their own individuality depending on location and the surrounding neighbourhood. To craft the perfect interior design and complement the Grade II listed building on Pilgrim Street, Gaucho are partnering with Design LSM to intertwine the interior to compliment the heritage of the city. With Newcastle being the birthplace to railways, ship building, electric lighting and turbine power, this inspired LSM to create a narrative around the materials and shapes of the city, in particular looking at forms through the use of metal and glass, specifically decorative coloured glass pioneered throughout Europe by the famed Newcastle Beilby family.

Yasamin Nikoosimaitak: Marketing Manager at Design LSM said “We intend to introduce subtle crafted items that pay homage to the city’s historic roots and the craftsmanship of Newcastle’s past and future whilst bringing in Gaucho’s vibrancy, elegance and passion.”
