Tyneside Cinema and Divine Trash are marking this years Eurovision Song Contest with a party to celebrate the Eurovision Grand Final in Copenhagen, featuring karaoke and late night DJ sets from Sheena Revolta and Lady Annabella in the Tyneside Bar on Saturday 10 May.
Eurovision fans at The Tyneside Cinema Eurovision Party are invited to dress as their favourite country for a chance to win some fabulous prizes, and enjoy alternative commentary from Finnish fashion stylist Krista Puranen Wilson, Cornshed Sisters singer Marie Nixon, comedian Hal Branson and artist Claire Biddles who will be sharing their thoughts about the contest, which will be projected live on the Cinemas Electra screen.
After the broadcast, the audience will have the chance to take the microphone and sing their favourite Eurovision classics with karaoke in the Tyneside Bar, followed by music until 1.30am from Sheena Revolta and Lady Annabella, the DJs behind the successful Divine Trash Drag Balls.
DJ Sheena Revolta said For people of taste and refinement, Eurovision is not only a feast of music, costume and dance, but it sets the trends in fashion and popular culture for the coming year. It's also a celebration of pan-European identity, which is all important in our ever-shrinking world. The Tyneside Cinema is an entertainment hub in the heart of a buzzing city, and it's apt that Eurovision should find itself partying in our town.
Tickets for the party are on sale now and proceeds will go towards the Tyneside Cinema Appeal, which is raising funds to build a new cinema screen, video art gallery and a Bar Café in the Tynesides spectacular Grade II listed building in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Mark Dobson, Chief Executive of Tyneside Cinema, said There are lots of Eurovision fans amongst our staff at Tyneside Cinema, and we cant wait to see who comes out on top of the pops at the final. We hope that people will join the party and support their favourite entry on the night, while helping us raise money for the Tyneside Cinema Appeal at the same time.
Work on Tyneside Cinemas redevelopment is underway and will cost a total of £1.3 million. With funding of £1.2 million in place from trusts and foundations, in September 2013 the Cinema launched the Tyneside Cinema Appeal to
raise the remaining£100,000 from the public, who have generously donated more than £71.000 towards the project so far.
Tyneside Cinemas redevelopment is supported by Arts Council England, the Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust, The Charles Hayward Foundation, the Foyle Foundation, the Garfield Weston Foundation, Newcastle City Council, The
Percy Hedley Foundation and The Stuart Halbert Foundation, as well as thousands of members of the public who have donated to the Tyneside Cinema Appeal. Tyneside Cinema is a registered charity and the Tyneside Appeal
2013/14 is sponsored by Muckle LLP. To find out more about the redevelopment and make a donation, please visit www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/appeal.
