Newcastle upon Tyne, a city to be proud of, a city with heritage, world class culture and unique identity all of its own now has a brilliant new Summer event!
The Newcastle Fair will be at Exhibition Park and Town Moor over 10 days from the 9 18 of August. This brand new summer event will have a fun fair, live music, sport, weekend craft and food markets and much more.
Cllr Hazel Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Communities said: The Newcastle Fair will be a great event for everybody in Newcastle and beyond. Exhibition Park and the Town Moor have a long standing history for great regional events such as the great North East Coast Exhibition of 1929 for what gave the park its name, to the vibrant, multi-cultural event, The Mela. And Im sure many people will remember the Tyneside Summer Exhibition which was enjoyed by so many for over 20 years. The Newcastle Fair is placed during the summer holidays to give people a great event to enjoy and there really is something for everyone.
The fun fair will be set on the Town Moor and will have around 40 rides ranging from the bigger rides such as the Superbowl, Freak Out and Seastorm to classics like the Dodgems, Helter Skelter and the Waltzer. There will also be plenty of rides for the little ones too like inflatable slides, train ride and toyset to name a few.
At the weekends, there will be a craft and food market. Organiser, Tony Robson said: There will be over 30 stalls offering world foods, crafts, jewellery and much more. These will be on over the two weekends during the fair. The 10th and 11th then the 17th and 18th Aug. If youre a lover of local produce and hand-made crafts then come along as you are sure to find something.
One of the single biggest events, Picnic in the Park, will be held on the 17 Aug from 11 4pm. Organiser, Neil Ramshaw said: This is probably the most active picnic youll ever come to. We have bungee trampolines, an area for football, inclusive cycling, Tennis Zone, Summer Hoops, obstacle courses, a dance stage and more. We have so much on; you may not find time to actually eat your picnic.
The Newcastle Fair will also include this years Exhibition Cup 5k Race. Formerly known as the Elswick Cup, this is a chip timed race which starts and finishes in Exhibition Park. The race is now organised by Tyne Bridge Harriers, who have taken the rein from Newcastle City Council. Harrier and Race Director, David Appleby said: Were very excited to be holding the race at The Newcastle Fair as it will showcase the race to a whole new audience. The race will be a fantastic way to finish a week of great events and we hope that people come along and support our runners. The race has a capacity for 350 people. If you would like to take part, you can enter online here.
