One Couple, Two Mayors - What 20th Century Newcastle Looked Like from the Official Coach: Discovery Museum

This Event has passed

As part of its Potted History of the West End exhibition, the Discovery Museum is hosting an illustrated talk led by North East writer and social historian Rosie Serdiville.

Inspired by a series of photographs of former Newcastle mayors John Grantham and his wife Violet Grantham, the talk is perfect for local history buffs and is set to cover memorable moments in Toon history - from royal visits to the Montagu Pit Disaster.

Image shows Violet Grantham, Lady Mayoress of Newcastle upon Tyne, meeting a fortune-teller at the Town Moor Festival, 23 June 1937. Courtesy of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.
