Whether you’ve just got together with someone you think might be ‘the one’, or you’re years into a relationship that still brings you happiness, a lovely Valentine’s Day meal can be the perfect way to celebrate what you have together and remind yourselves how good you’ve got it.
Valentine’s Day is also a big day for the restaurant industry and many offer special Valentine’s Day meals in Newcastle – we’ve rounded up some of the best!
Blackfriars, Friars Street
Taking a loved one to Blackfriars is an excellent way to give a Valentine’s Day meal a sense of grandeur, with everything from the surroundings to the food offering something really special. Their Valentine’s Day Chef's Table on 14th February simply adds to the occasion: for £125 per person you and your love interest can feast on a six-course meal prepared at your table by your own personal chef! This is Valentine’s for foodies, with dishes likely to include canapés, amuse bouche, starter, fish course, palette cleanser, meat course, pre-dessert, dessert, cheese and coffee. And your sommelier will take care of the drinks pairing for each course.
The Botanist, Monument Mall
The Botanist is certainly pulling out all the stops for Valentine’s Day this year. Their sharing menu for two includes a selection of starters, their famous hanging kebab, and a limited edition Valentine’s cookie dough – served with two spoons, of course! The menu even includes a limited edition Raspberry Rhapsody cocktail each for you both to cheers with.

Gaucho, Market Street
With its gorgeous interior and luxurious ambience, Gaucho is undoubtedly one of the most romantic restaurants in Newcastle and they’re going all out this Valentine’s Day with a tempting sharing menu. Priced at £110 per couple, you and your beloved will dine on black truffle and wild mushroom fugazzeta to start, a choice of three succulent sharing steaks, two sides and a decadent strawberry and raspberry mille-feuille for dessert – all that plus a bottle of wine handpicked by Gaucho’s expert sommelier too!
Thali Tray, Bealim House
Alternatively, spice things up this Valentine’s Day with a trip to Thali Tray. They’re offering a delicious set menu for £27.50 per person, complete with prosecco or draught beer, Bombay mix, your choice of Thali Tray, and pistachio kulfi. Reservations are essential to get their offer, so make sure you lovebirds have a table for the big day by visiting their website.

Mantra Thai Dining, Forth Banks
One of Newcastle’s finest Thai restaurants, Mantra Thai is offering something very special this Valentine’s Day – a delicious three-course set menu including a sharing platter, main course, side dish and dessert for just £48 per person, or £45 per person for their Valentine’s vegetarian menu. And with mouth-watering options including roasted aubergine in panang curry, massaman lamb shank curry, and grand marnier chocolate mousse, what’s not to love?
Barluga, Grey Street
Barluga sets the scene for a romantic dinner this Valentine’s Day priced at £29 for two courses per lovebird or three courses for £35. Available 13th to 15th February, dine on starters like seared scallops, mains including truffle risotto and decadent desserts like chocolate mousse.

Café Andaluz, Grey Street
A wonderful oasis of Iberian charm in the heart of Newcastle, Café Andaluz is always a recommended destination, but even more so for Valentine’s Day. Their Valentine’s sharing menu – priced at just £32.50 per person – offers a choice of three tapas dishes and a dessert each. Think everything from berenjena al horno (baked aubergine) to calamares, albondigas (traditional spiced pork and beef meatballs) to chorizo al vino and sweet treats including churros and semifredo de limon.
21, One Trinity Gardens
This Valentine's, 21 is showcasing the very best of what the season has to offer with an incredible five-course menu that’ll be hard not to fall in love with. Continuing the restaurant’s flavour-first food philosophy, you and your loved one will indulge in house smoked salmon, scallop crudo, fillet of turbot, fillet of beef, vacherin mont d’or, and blood orange and Yorkshire rhubarb baked Alaska. Priced at £60 during lunchtimes, and £75 at dinner, there’s also the option to add an accompanying wine flight for £55 too.

Dakwala, Grainger Street
Turn the heat up in your relationship with a visit to Dakwala to try their limited-edition Valentine’s Day menu available from 10th to 14th February. Kick off your romantic meal with mouthwatering munchies and a glass of prosecco before tucking into a three-course meal of spicy stadrters like chilli chicken Manchurian, hearty mains like Old Delhi butter chicken and tempting desserts like Bombay rose faluda kulfi. It’s priced at £35 per person and includes black dal, butter naan and pulao rice with mains.
Côte Brasserie, Grainger Street
This Valentine’s Day, Côte Brasserie’s writing a love letter to the French Alps with a two-course set menu to share with your amour. Dine on confit duck with cherries, pan-fried salmon, and a special take on their baked alps dessert. After something even more special? Why not start the meal with half a dozen Colchester Oysters, and wash it all down with Côte’s Lillet Valentine’s Spritz.

Miller & Carter, Mosley Street
Adopting the mantle ‘masters of romance’ for Valentine’s this year, steakhouse chain Miller & Carter have a week-long special three-course menu to tempt all you lovers out there. From £40.50 per head, guests can dine on such delights as baked camembert, 8oz fifty day aged black angus sirloin, and millionaire chocolate fondant. Or you can really aim to impress with the Valentine’s Sharing Steak Experience: a mouthwatering selection of their finest cuts, sautéed greens and barbacoa mac & cheese and a bottle of Möet & Chandon Imperial for £135.
Pleased To Meet You, High Bridge
Sparing no expense for the season of love, Pleased To Meet You is offering a full Valentine’s specials menu from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th February. Start with some truffle mushroom arancini, before diving into grilled tuna steak and an assortment of chocolate truffles – or indulge in their whole chicken sharer, served with fries, winter greens, and two sauces.

Social Bird, Fenkle Street
Love is certainly in the air at Social Bird who have not one but two Valentine menus available from 13th to 17th February. Go for the £40 per person Lovebird Dinner deal featuring a starter, main, dessert and glass of fizz on arrival or enjoy a romantic sharing platter and bottle of prosecco for £75 per couple – both ideal for sweethearts who love chicken!so
Leila Lily’s, Grey Street
With its opulent floral interiors, Leila Lily’s definitely boasts a romantic interior to compliment its Valentine’s sharing menu. Priced per couple, you can enjoy two courses for £60, or three for £70, and dine on the likes of honey roasted cauliflower, baked camembert, and crème de cacao blanc delice. Delicious!
