Everything You Need to Know About... The North Pole
Christmas in Newcastle just got a lot more exciting with this new, unique festive experience
Christmas in the Toon gets bigger and better every year and in 2024 visitors to the city will see a brand-new addition to Newcastle’s Christmas Markets in the shape of The North Pole.
A community of cosy igloo pods located around Grey’s Monument, a trip to The North Pole is a must-do this festive season so we’ve gathered up all the info you need to make the most of it.
What is The North Pole?
It’s a collection of luxury igloo pods located on a raised platform around the plinth of Grey’s Monument brought to you by EVNT Inspirations, the same team behind the nearby Moosenwirt Alpine Bar.
The igloos feature tables and seating and a cosy, unique environment to enjoy food, drinks and gorgeous views over Newcastle’s Christmas Markets and Grey Street. There's even the added luxury of table service!
How long will the igloos be there for?
They’ll be in place at Grey’s Monument from Saturday 16th November up until Christmas Eve on Tuesday 24th December.
What time is The North Pole open from?
It’s open from 11am to 10:45pm.
Do you have to book?
Booking isn’t strictly necessary, and people will be able to walk up and use the igloo pods without reservations – subject to availability, of course.
However, as The North Pole is such a unique festive experience in Newcastle, we’re expecting it to be very popular so would definitely recommend booking ahead.
The igloo pods can be booked for 1 hour 45-minute slots for £200 during peak times (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays plus 23rd December and 24th December) or for £120 during off-peak times (Monday-Thursday) which is redeemable against food and drink.
Where can the £200 be redeemed at?
It can be redeemed on table service at the Dasher Festive Drinks Hutte which is located at the back of Grey’s Monument on Blackett Street.
What food and drink is available?
The Hutte is serving up all kinds of tasty festive treats to keep pod guests fed and watered.
On the drinks side of things, there’s luxury loaded hot chocolates (including a few boozy varieties!), mulled wine, prosecco, beer and soft drinks while for food there’s a choice of sweet or savoury grazing boards to nibble on.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
You certainly can! There are tonnes of great hot food stalls at Newcastle’s Christmas Markets that guests can order food from and bring back to the pods to enjoy. However, only food and drink purchased from the Vixen Festive Drinks Hutte is redeemable against the cost of booking.
How many people can fit inside?
Each igloo pod can fit up to 12 people but they're available for groups of all sizes if they can adhere to the minimum spend to book. Larger groups are also welcome and can book multiple domes – email [email protected] to enquire.
Are children allowed in the igloos?
Children are more than welcome and the pods are great for a festive family treat while enjoying a wander around the Christmas Markets or activities at the brand-new Christmas Village at Old Eldon Square.
However, access for large pushchairs and wheelchairs is limited, though there are similar igloo domes over at Moosenwirt Alpine Bar that can accommodate.
The North Pole will be at Grey’s Monument from Saturday 16th November to Tuesday 24th November and is open from 11am to 10:45pm. For more information or to book an igloo pod, visit www.moosenwirt.co.uk/thenorthpole.
