The Best Places To Cycle In Newcastle

Last updated:

The sun is cracking the pavements (some times), city life is buzzing and there’s a plethora of activities going on in the city - making it the perfect time to saddle up and explore Newcastle on two wheels!

Here’s our stop by stop city cycling guide...

WESLEY SQUARE

You really can’t afford to miss NE1’s stunning sun-trap at Wesley Square. Located between the Tyne and Millennium bridges, NE1's chillout space features stunning planters and the usual quirky and unique NE1 seating you all know and love. Park your trusty steed here, kick back on a colourful NE1 lounger and tuck into a lush ‘99’ from the ice cream van. ‘Summer in the City’ done right!

EXHIBITION PARK

How does a crisp pint of Jakehead sound after a whistle-stop tour round the Toon in the blazing heat? No NE1 bike ride is complete without a pit-stop at Wylam Brewery, in Exhibition Park and this 30 barrel microbrewery is the perfect place to pop in post-ride for a refreshing pint or two!

NE1’S SCREEN ON THE GREEN

Legs feeling a tad heavy after all that exploring? Why not come join us at Old Eldon Square, pop your feet up and kick back with a free movie at our Screen on the Green? With a plethora of foodie options nearby, it’s the perfect excuse to catch your breath, enjoy a Hollywood epic and send a few texts as you search for a rescue lift!

NE1'S LIGHT PARK

A sight for see-saw eyes! You’d be an absolute fool to miss a photo opportunity over at our ‘Wave-Field’ see-saw and dichroic installation next to Pitcher & Piano! Here, you can snap away to your heart’s content with eight giant see-saws, as well as dazzling doughnut shaped seats from Denmark and dichroic installations designed and built by Raskl! We reckon there’ll be a raft of new profile pictures hitting Facebook after one visit...

NEWCASTLE HELIX

Having enjoyed all the brilliant goings on across the city, why not take your ride up to Newcastle Helix and explore the hive of activity going on there? The architectural aficionados among you will have a field day here, as Newcastle Helix is home to some of the UK's most striking, forward-thinking buildings! After gazing at breathtaking buildings, you can enjoy tons of stunning landscaped areas and gorgeous greenery before heading for a culture trip to Chinatown!

LEAZES PARK

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and zoom over to Leazes Park, where you can take a break and bask in the glorious summer rays. A popular spot for dog walkers, fitness

enthusiasts and photography fanatics alike, the oldest park in the city is well worth checking out as you wheel across the Toon - be sure to tag us in your two wheel adventures across Newcastle!

THE GUILDHALL

Kick back and relax in the glorious summer rays with a breather at the stunning Guildhall down by the Quayside! A Grade I listed building that has played a pivotal role in shaping Newcastle’s shipping heritage since the 15th century, a two wheel excursion over to The

Guildhall to enjoy stunning architecture, breathtaking panoramic river vistas and a bite to eat at Hard Rock Cafe Newcastle is an absolute must!

NEWCASTLE CATHEDRAL

Take a whistle-stop excursion over to St. Nicholas Square and immerse yourself in the beauty of Newcastle Cathedral - it’s one of the Toon’s oldest and most impressive buildings.

The team is not far from unveiling its stunning £6m transformation, but a quick walk round the grounds taking in the stunning scenes and you’ll soon realise why it’s one of the city’s most-loved icons.

You could even pop into the Garden of Empress just down the road afterwards - we’ve heard a few G&Ts help massively with gruelling uphill sections...
