Eating out as family can be expensive, especially with kids’ picky eating habits and the cost-of-living crisis to consider.

Fear not though, parents and guardians. We’ve rounded up some of the best restaurants in Newcastle offering dining deals for kids that are bound to please the pickiest of pint-sized eaters and won’t put too big a dent in your wallet either.

Chiquito, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

If mouthwatering Mexican fare is your kind of thing, why not treat your little amigos to a meal at Chiquito? For less than a tenner – or £7.30 to be precise – kids can tuck into mains like mini fajitas and quesadilla pizzas, sides including fries and corn on the cob and desserts like churros and brownies The £7.30 kid’s deal includes a drink and free veggie sticks too, so there shouldn’t be any complaining about being hungry on the way home either!

Turtle Bay, Newgate Street

Kids will love the Caribbean-inspired cuisine on offer at Turtle Bay and parents will love the discounts even more! Their Little Turtles menu offers main courses including a range of burgers plus dishes like marinated chicken and mac ‘n’ cheese for £5.70 and an ice cream dessert for £1.50 a scoop. Turtle Bay even throw in a free soft drink for kids too!

Grey Street restaurant Las Iguanas is perfect for a family fiesta and we bet your bambinos will love their Niños Meals… and you’ll love how much money you save! Cough up just £7.25 and your little ones will get a tasty main course, two sides and a delicious dessert to finish. With food like burgers, nuggets and wacky tacos to choose from, there’s plenty to suit even the fussiest of eaters and Las Iguanas will reheat baby bottles for super-tiny diners too!

Frankie & Benny’s, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

Eating with kids who have very different appetites can be difficult, but Frankie and Benny’s have the perfect solution. Their kid’s menu has Small Eaters and Big Eaters options priced at £6.80 and £8.30 respectively which each include a drink, a main course, a side and a dessert – plus a veggie pot with carrot, cucumber and pepper sticks because we all know they need their five-a-day!

Twenty Twenty, Bigg Market

Pizza is always a crowd-pleaser and nowhere does it bigger or better than Bigg Market hotspot Twenty Twenty. They’ve got lots of kid-friendly offers too, with pasta dishes and a make-your-own-pizza offer priced at £4.95 and a £6.95 meal deal featuring a choice of pizza or pasta, juice and ice cream or popcorn to finish. Better yet, guests can get up to two kid’s meals for free during the school holidays with the purchase of any 20” pizza from Monday to Friday between 12pm and 4pm.

Hula Co, Side

The family fun continues over at Twenty Twenty ‘s sister restaurant Hula Co, a haven for all things Hawaiian. Their kid’s meal deal offers a main including poke bowls and Hawaiian fried chicken, a dessert and a drink for just £7. Like Twenty Twenty, kids eat free during the school holidays when accompanying grown-ups buy a main course or any three small plates from Hula Co’s main menu from Wednesday to Friday between 12pm and 4pm. Aloha!

Dobson & Parnell, Queen Street

Fancy treating your little ones to a spot of casual fine dining? Look no further than Dobson & Parnell. While the grown-ups dine on boundary-pushing British and European cuisine, kids can enjoy approachable eats like fish or chicken goujons and Sunday lunches. It won’t break the bank either, thanks to their kids eat free deal which offers a complimentary kid’s main course when an accompanying adult orders a minimum of two courses from their Sunday lunch, set or a la carte menus.

Fat Hippo, Shakespeare Street

What kid doesn’t love a burger? Fat Hippo serves up some of the best burgers in the Toon and their build-a-burger deal for kids is unbeatable. For just £7.50, kids can choose from beef, chicken and vegan-friendly burgers and customise them with a choice of toppings, sauces and garnishes. Fat Hippo even throw in a side and a drink too, with the option to upgrade to a milkshake for a little extra.

Hard Rock Café, Sandhill

Football fanatics are in for a treat with a trip to Hard Rock Café thanks to their Messi Kids menu. Named after the famous Argentine footballer, it offers a main course (including the legendary Messi burger), a side, a tempting dessert and a drink for just £12.95. That’s not all either: every kid gets a free golden Messi football to take home with them too while stocks last. Goal!

Parents looking to broaden their little ones’ taste buds can’t go wrong with a trip to Umai Mi in Eldon Square. Their Pan-Asian cuisine is perfect for introducing new flavours and their kid’s menu offers a ‘Big Eat’ and choice of ice cream or sorbet for dessert for just £6.50. That means the kids can try dishes like chicken katsu or futomaki rolls and the grown-ups can rest assured that it won’t set them back too much!

Bella Italia, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

In the mood for a traditional Italian family meal that the kids will love? Head to Bella Italia in Eldon Square and take advantage of their Bella Kids menu. There are two options suited to smaller and bigger appetites – the £6.49 Piccolo Menu and the £8.49 Grande menu – and each includes a starter, a main course, a dessert and a drink. Buon appetito!

Dakwala, Grainger Street

Spice up your next family meal at Dakwala where their authentic Bombay-inspired cuisine is available in smaller portions with milder spices for pint-sized diners. Available for children under 10, their kid’s menu features mains like paneer butter masala and chicken malayi tikka served with a choice of rice, chips or maska bun followed by ice cream or chocolate molten cake for dessert for just £7.95. Ideal for getting your little ones into spicier food without breaking the bank!

If your little ones are forever nicking your food, then they’ll love the Piccolo Menu at PizzaExpress which offers three courses of tasty ‘grown-up food’ for just £7.95 – dough balls to start, a pizza or pasta to follow, a delicious dessert and a Bambinoccino (caffeine-free of course!). Gluten-free options are available too.

Nando’s, Westgate Road / The Gate / Eldon Square

Chicken lovers both old and young can’t go wrong with a meal at Nando’s and with three city centre locations, it’s a handy spot no matter where you are in Newcastle. Order from their set Nandino’s menu your little ones will get a main, two sides and a drink or dessert for the princely sum of £6.25. Winner, winner chicken dinner!
