Newcastle's Christmas Market Is Back!

Last updated:

One of the loveliest things about Christmas in the city is a wander through the traditional Christmas market - there's nothing like it for getting you in the festive mood. Well, the good news is that it’s back next week, so you can kick off the holiday season in style!

The market will run from Saturday November 19th till Friday December 23rd and as well as being in its usual locations - around the Monument, down the top of Grey Street, and along Grainger Street until it hits Market Street – this year it will also expand to take over Old Eldon Square. The market will be open from 10am to 8pm every day except Sunday, which will run until 5pm. Throughout December the Grainger Market will also be open every Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

As ever, there’s a strong local / regional focus to the stalls and concessions, and the Old Eldon Square area is going to feature all sorts of beautifully crafted arts, crafts and gifts. Throughout the market, a diverse and appealing range of local and independent traders will be selling everything from foodstuffs to jewellery, art to clothing, ceramics to cosmetics, plants to taxidermy! You’ll be able to stock up on Christmas sweet treats, artisan wines, beers and spirits, cheeses, preserves and more to make the holiday even more tasty.

And to make it even more festive, there will be food stalls selling hot dishes from all over the world – including bratwurst of course! – for you to munch as you take in the atmosphere, as well as hot chocolate, coffee, mulled wine and roast chestnuts. There'll be stalls from Acropolis, Redheads Mac N Cheese, Geordie Banger, Divine Caribbean, La Petite Creperie and Deli Churros so everyone should be catered for.

The Christmas Market is a much-loved Newcastle institution and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever, so head down there and get your Christmas started right!
