Newcastle Outdoor Dining Destinations To Add To Your April Agenda

Last updated:

Oh, how we have missed the tastes of the Toon! As lockdown restrictions begin to ease from this week onwards, we’ve rounded up some of the restaurants and beer gardens offering outdoor delights from 12 April. It's time to reunite with your favourite spot Newcastle…

BUT FIRST...

We know, we know, the prospect of city life returning, beer gardens bouncing and seeing loved ones once again is incredibly exciting and you're probably booked into hundreds of our city’s venues. Class, thank you for supporting Newcastle and our independent business, but please keep in mind the 'No more no shows' campaign. We know plans change, that's cool, just let the venue know in advance so they can offer others your table, and you can rebook for a later date if possible. Now, let's get onto all the good stuff!

HEAD OF STEAM

We’re going full steam ahead when it comes to outdoor pints, good vibes and lush food in the city this spring. With a spot down by Broad Chare on the Quayside now open, our chums over at Head of Steam are welcoming in the resumption of city life by serving up their delicious full foodie menu to hungry revellers, as well as all your pint favourites by the tap - ideal for those thirsty patrons who’ve been taking advantage of the Toon’s shopping deals! With loads of vegetarian and vegan options to choose from, it’s such a vibe to finally be back, sitting outside with a pint and a burger in hand. Get in!

FLAT CAPS COFFEE

It's been great to get our grab-and-go coffees in the city in recent months, but there's nothing better than getting back to our pretty pavement cafes! Make sure you add a visit to Flat Caps Coffee's outside seating area this spring, where you'll be able to sip on the good stuff, enjoy an indulgent snack or two, and catch up with friends, NE1-style!

THE MUDDLER

The perfect place for cocktails, small plates and sushi, The Muddler is a great summer spot to kick back and tuck into pan-Asian delights. The outdoor seating is in high-demand, so be sure to get your hands on a table now by pre- booking.

THE REDHOUSE

Fancy a pie? Your wish is our command this April as The Redhouse returns with its outside seating area in its buzzy Quayside spot. Go here this spring for pies aplenty, served along some of the most refreshing pints in the Toon!

THE GREEN MAN

The Green Man, over on Pudding Chare, have announced that they’re open from 12 April and thirsty Geordies can now enjoy food and drinks in their colourful outdoor area! Sit under one of their giant parasols, or enjoy the open-air and sunshine, either way it’s bliss with a cold pint of their Green Man lager.

BANYAN

Time to get back to Banyan! The friendly folk at this beautiful Monument Mall venue have been busy behind-the-scenes, getting ready to welcome you back with 2-4-1 cocktails and a mouthwatering menu, to be enjoyed in the spring sunshine!

ALVINOS

Get in there! Fantastic news for all those who love cool beats, spectacular cocktails and chilled vibes - our friends at Alvinos are opening their Pilgrim Street HQ on 15 April and this Geordie favourite is definitely high on our must-visit list this Spring. The girls and boys are opening their outside areas for walk-ins only, and with a brand new cocktail menu to sip away at in the Newcastle sunshine (fingers crossed) over the coming weeks, be sure to round up your girl gang or boy band and get yourselves over to this mega NE1 hangout this April - it's going to be mega!

PITCHER & PIANO

We've been dreaming about whiling away the hours with a tipple, watching the world go by over the Tyne. Don't forget to check in for an afternoon of al fresco dining at Pitcher & Piano's outside seating area!

BY THE RIVER BREW CO.

If you’re in town this spring it would be rude not to take a trip over the Swing Bridge to the Quayside's ‘Southbank’, especially if the sun is making a welcome appearance. Here you’ll find By The River Brew Co. - a quirky, industrial-style hub that serves up plentiful pints by the dozen. With outside space in abundance, a sensational view across the Tyne and a chilled vibe to go with it, this spot is at the top of our ‘must-visit’ agendas this week!

BLUES CAFE NEWCASTLE

Add a spot of southern soul and sunshine (you’ll need it, judging by this week’s weather forecast!) to your April mooch round the city! Our friends down at Blues Cafe Newcastle on Cloth Market are opening their takeaway pint hatch this April and they’re serving their entire line of draught beers and lagers alongside their award winning cocktail menu everyday from 12pm to 1am. Handy, as you’ll need ample refreshments from shopping all of NE1’s cool independents on High Bridge!
