NE1's Newcastle Restaurant Week August 2023: Lily Loves

NE1's Marketing & Events Executive Lily Morris runs through her Restaurant Week must-visits

NE1's marketing and events executive Lily Morris

Hi, I’m Lily, the Marketing and Events Executive at NE1. There’s a great selection and variety of food venues involved the August 2023 edition of NE1's Newcastle Restaurant Week, with all kinds of cuisines to try.

To help you decide where to dine out at, I've put together some of my top picks based on restaurants whose found I've found to be delicious. I hope you enjoy!

Twenty Twenty, Bigg Market

The Ant to my Dec. Twenty Twenty is a legendary venue for a reason, and not just because of the inventive names of its food and drink. Although it's a bottomless brunch classic, Twenty Twenty’s Restaurant Week offer still fills you up with all the goods! My personal favourite pizza is Tex’ Me Later, and of course, a cocktail has to be accompanied on the side. Whether you want to be Getting Ginny With It or Shake That Peach, head to Twenty Twenty if you want the perfect catch up with friends. And who knows? If you head down, you maybe lucky enough to meet the ultimate mascot, Theo - Twenty Twenty's resident pooch. 🐶

Café Andaluz, Grey Street

As this is on my list, it’s pretty clear Café Andaluz is one of my favourite places in town. I want ALL the tapas please! There's something for everyone so it's a great pick if you have a large group of people with different food preferences. Share or keep the three tapas for yourself (mine is always the latter... oops). I know Patatas Bravas is a Spanish tapas fave, however you need to try the Patatas Gratinadas. It’s a game changer! (You can thank me later).

Kafeneon, Bigg Market

Kafeneon sure gives you all the Mamma Mia vibes. You'll definitely think you’ve escaped to Greece when dining here. It's one of the most popular independents in the Toon for a reason. Not only can you enjoy delicious food but the price point and quality is unmatched. The Mixed Grill Souvlaki is always my go-to but everything on the menu is tasty. Gimme Gimme Gimme it all for only £15. So the real question is, will you be the Winner (that) Takes It All?

Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Mosley Street

Do I need to say anymore? Miller & Carter is always one of the most popular places and I’m sure you can guess why - it's the perfect date night spot and treat for an amazing price every Restaurant Week. If you love a good steak, there’s not much competition here. My personal favourite is the baked cheddar mushrooms as a starter, followed by a classic rump with peppercorn sauce. And who can forget about the classic lettuce wedge?!

Umai Mi, Eldon Square

I’m not sure about you but I love some Pan-Asian food! Umai Mi is one of the best places in town and you don’t feel sluggish after because it’s cooked with fresh and flavourful ingredients. I would highly recommend the sizzling hot plate because it's so, so yummy! The portions are a great size, so if you are feeling brave, enjoy 3 courses for only £20 this Restaurant Week.

Las Iguanas, Grey Street

Anyone who knows me, knows my three favourite things in life are the three C's - chicken, cheese and cocktails. So what better place to have a Mexican feast than Las Iguanas (am I right?!). Whether it’s nachos or a chicken quesadilla to start followed by some enchiladas, I’m one happy girl.

So there you have it - my Lily Loves top picks. Let us know if your favourite is on my list or I've missed a must-have off.
