Lights, Camera, Action - Newcastle International Film Festival is on it's way to NE1
It’s got royal approval, the backing of Hollywood stars and a stellar team of the North East’s most prominent movers and shakers on board.
Newcastle International Film Festival is happening over Easter 2018 and will shine a very dazzling light on the region as a place to make movie-making business.
There will be a red carpet, premieres, famous faces and lots of glamour. Think Cannes-on-Tyne!
We are upping the ranks as one of the most exciting cities to visit year after year as we made our way onto countless top five must visit lists in 2017. Our very first International Film Festival making it’s way to NE1 will shine a spectacular light on our city that we just can’t wait to enjoy.

Directors
In the directors chair are the lovely people from The Newcastle Festival Board which is made up of leaders in industry, all with a passion for film and a wealth of experience in business and industry. A trifecta of talent we have TJ Gill as the Co Founder and Director, Jacqui Miller-Charlton MBE as president and Kirsty Bell LLB (Hons) CTA as film finance and distribution director. What a team!
Story Line
Get the VIP treatment and enjoy never seen before films that will take you on a journey all over globe as they are delivered to audiences across Newcastle and Gateshead throughout the four-day festival. Want to give it a go? Get stuck in with once in a lifetime masterclasses on all forms of movie making, Q&As and special events where internationally acclaimed producers, directors, actors and actresses will be in attendance, including the festival’s very own, Craig Conway, actor, producer, writer and director, along with internationally acclaimed and award-winning actress and producer, Caroline Goodall.
The Setting
Jam packed full of history The region itself captures all that is wonderful about human values and its capital is a city of Sanctuary, offering a safe haven for those in need as well as a variety of opportunities for those wishing to attain at the highest level across education, the arts, culture and business.
This year’s worldwide film making and awards programmes is all about sending a message and making a difference. We saw unity at The Golden Globes last week and expect to see even more as the Oscar season approaches.
We are proud to be renowned for our warmth, diversity and friendliness from our lovely locals and cant wait to make waves of our own in recognising achievements of women in the industry. The festival organisers intend to mark the 100th year anniversary of UK women’s right to vote by holding ‘A Ladies Who Mean Business Lunch’ on 28th March, where men and women from across the world will come together in a celebration of women’s achievements since this historic milestone.
The Premiere
The red carpet rolls out on 29th March to 1st April 2018 with a grand Opening Ceremony late afternoon on 29th March. Expect carnival as they pull out all the stops with a Military Band playing and marching the length of Grey Street to Grey’s Monument followed by an opening address. In addition to movies, workshops and Q&As, the festival will also host a series of special events for children pre-nursery to 11 years where they can participate in their very own film production.
Recognition
Start practicing your acceptance speech in the mirror because you could bag yourself a Victorem by entering your very own film. A Victorem is the prestigious new international film award presented to the winners of each category of the Newcastle Film Festival, which are handed out at the Annual Awards Ceremony. They will celebrate all aspects of film, from Best Actor to Best Film and Best Screenplay to Best Director. Get involved and get your very own for the mantlepiece.
