Introducing… MOJO

Last updated:

It’s not MOJO’s style to quietly appear on Newcastle’s bar scene. It needed to make an impact, as loud and lively and in your face as the bar itself. So on Good Friday more than 600 people showed up to welcome the city’s newest bar and get it on the map!

MOJO is situated inside The Gate (on the old TGI Friday site) and is part of a seven-strong national chain that started in Leeds in 1996, making a name for itself with a no-nonsense mission statement: “the greatest guitar music of the previous four decades with perfectly crafted cocktails, ice-cold beers and of course an all-inclusive ethic of respect and tolerance aimed at delivering... GOOD TIMES FOREVER!”

There’s a lot of reasons to be excited about MOJO, not least the cocktail menu. There’s around 120 on offer, in themed groups like Sunset Strip Party Cocktails, Vintage Ragtime Cocktails, Flaming Tiki Cocktails and the rest. Everything from the sophisticated – an Old Fashioned or a Boulevardier – to the more flamboyant and colourful – a Spiced Strawberry Rum Truffle, perhaps, or a Raspberry Beret. There’s a good selection of mocktails too, as well as shots and shooters and all the beers, ciders and wines you’d want.

The food menu is fun too – styled along classic American diner lines, there are hand-stretched pizzas, wings, waffles and burgers (all available meat-free) and various fries options. And they offer a bottomless brunch every weekend, from 12-4pm: starting at £30pp through to £100pp for 90 minutes of endless food, alcohol and rock! (that’s being rolled out to the whole week). And there’s an all-day meal deal too (a main course and a drink for £12).

And if that wasn’t enough, MOJO wants to keep you entertained: as well as the carefully curated soundtrack, there’s live sport on the screens and some classic bar games so you can challenge your friends to shuffleboard and beer (or prosecco) pong. There are other packages too, for events like hen nights, and even cocktail masterclasses - all taking place in a vibrant, lively bar full of colour and bearing some Mul Draws street art.

“We had a fantastic time celebrating the opening of our newest bar in Newcastle,” said MOJO Managing Director Martin Greenhow. “It was exciting to see such a great turn out for the party and it gave us a chance to showcase all the hard work that the team has put in over the last few months, from the design of the bar itself, to the new cocktails and dishes. We can’t wait to welcome more people down to the new bar and continue spreading our ethos of bringing music for the people, food for the soul and good times forever.”

MOJO is in The Gate on Newgate Street and it’s open from midday to 2am every day of the week.
