The big day is set, you’ve got your dress and everything is planned...now it’s time to celebrate with your pals!

Newcastle has a reputation as a great party city that’s perfect for hens and stags and there’s plenty of ways to have fun with your besties. From hatchet throwing and cocktail-making classes, to delicious dining and dancing the night away - celebrate your ‘last day of freedom’ in Newcastle with our round-up of hen party ideas.

Get creative with a workshop

Before your night on the town, why not try out a new experience or make something wonderful to remember your day by? Make memories to treasure with a special ring making workshop courtesy of The Glamourous Owl on Old George Yard, where their silversmiths will teach you how to create your very own bespoke jewellery, making for a perfect keepsake for your hens.

Meanwhile, inside Eldon Square, Lush are also inviting parties onto the shop floor to celebrate, with the chance to create a product, and go head-to-head with games and activities tailored to you. Sounds – if you’ll excuse the pun – lush!

Alternatively, grab a glass of wine and create your one-of-a-kind masterpiece with Paint and Sip Co Newcastle! This lovely lot regularly host public workshops across the city centre – but if you’d prefer it to be just you and your besties, then it’s worth taking a look at their hen party package. They’ve got an impressive list of venues to pick from, and prices start from only £27.50 per person.

But if the woman of the hour prefers to create masterpieces in the kitchen, rather than the canvas, then take a look at Blackfriars. They’ve got a whole host of events to help make it a night to remember. Cook up a storm with their “ready steady cook” challenge, say salud to their “tacos and tequila” workshop, or shake things up with “cocktails and canapes.”

Be At One Be At One

Speaking of shaking (or stirring?) things up, the Toon is home to loads of cocktail making experiences to help everyone become a master mixologist. 3SIXTY Champagne Lounge on Rutherford Street also offers the chance to make your very own cocktail creations, as the bar with a view provides the backdrop to a 90-minute tutorial on how to make the perfect cocktail with their legendary mixologists.

Or, if you fancy heading behind the Be At One bar (and maybe learning one or two of their iconic dance moves), then book onto one of their cocktail masterclasses. You’ll be welcomed with a drink to get the good vibes going, before mixing up two cocktails from their special menu – and getting competitive in some masterclass games too.

Book up for a fun activity

Feeling brave? Head to Hatchet Harry’s on Forth Banks to blow off some steam, with their axe-perts (see what they did there?!) taking you through a thrilling 90-minute axe throwing experience.

Or for smaller groups, Exit Escape Rooms on Westgate Road is definitely worth a visit. It's one of the best-rated escape rooms in Newcastle and you’ll have to find your way out of the locked rooms using clues, solving puzzles and overcoming challenges – a great way to find out if your chief bridesmaid really can solve anything!

See the city from a whole new perspective with a tour from CBK Adventures, where you and your pals can paddle along Newcastle Quayside and be regaled with tales from the Toon’s past, present and future.

Junkyard Golf Club Junkyard Golf Club

Or, you’d prefer to keep both feet on dry land, but still want an out-of-this-world experience, then book in for some crazy golf at Junkyard Golf Club! With three mashed-up 9-hole courses, plus a bar serving up cocktails like the “Creepy Clown” and “Disco is Dead”, expect nothing less than the weird and wonderful from their crew.

Look, we understand that wedding planning can be stressful, but perhaps no-one gets it quite like Smash Space. Newcastle’s very own rage room is a therapeutic chance for brides-to-be to let out some inner frustrations… much better than a passive-aggressive email to the florist!

Relax and recharge with a spa treatment

After all that excitement, you’ll definitely be in need of some R&R, so why not book in for a spa day or massage in NewcastleMalmaison’s Spa has its very own Hen Party Package, where you’ll all enjoy a cocktail afternoon tea, overnight stay, thirty-minute spa pamper and much more – an ideal way to kick back with your gang and feel refreshed.

Or, head to Crowne Plaza’s Mineral House Spa, where you and your gal pals can relax in their steam room and enjoy a range of beauty packages. Their Relax & Revive Package comes recommended – spend two hours in the spa, enjoy a 55-minute treatment and a cheese board and glass of prosecco!

City Retreat City Retreat

Back in the heart of Newcastle, you’ll find the City Retreat Spa. Tucked away inside Grey Street Hotel, this hub of relaxation offers loads of treatment options, including a wide range of facials and massages – with some packages available too in case you feel like splashing out.

Also boasting a cracking city centre location is Newcastle’s City Baths – and following their huge redevelopment, they definitely know a thing or two about luxurious pampering! They’re home to the Turkish Baths and Spa, where visitors can pick from a wide range of Mediterranean-inspired skincare – or book in for one of their half-day packages.

Go out for some tasty food

Of course, if you’re headed on a night out in the Toon you’ll definitely want to fuel up, so why not schedule a pit stop at one of these fantastic city centre eateries?

A real favourite in the Bigg Market, at Twenty Twenty you’ll find giant 20” pizzas and 20 signature cocktails that’ll get your party started right. With happy hour and bottomless brunch offers too, it’s a great place to kick off your celebration.

Nearby in the Cloth Market, Revolución de Cuba will add some Latin spirit to any occasion, with dazzling cocktails and an indulgent Cuban-themed menu amidst funky decor.

Twenty Twenty Twenty Twenty

For locally sourced culinary delights, Horticulture on Pilgrim Street serves up small plates with big flavours, and their cocktail list is full of signature creations made with innovative and unusual tastes in mind.

Hibou Blanc also offers up a dining experience like no other – situated in a stunning Grade II listed building and boasts remarkable décor and a host of eccentric touches. The menu is flavour-led and seasonally changing, with a focus on British seafood and high quality ingredients, while their cocktails are served with a modern twist.

Contemporary Japanese dining is on offer at restaurant and late bar Aveika down on the Quayside. Their colourful and flavourful menu serves up Asian-inspired cuisine, fusing authentic and modern flavours with a funky and fresh aesthetic. Stay until the early hours with live DJs and creative cocktails adding the icing to the cake!

There’s more modern Asian cuisine at Quayside venue Victors, where you’ll find a wisteria-bedecked dining room, show-stopping cocktails and a menu of American-Asian small plates and sumptuous dinners.

Lui’s Bar And Kitchen on the Quayside (formerly known as Sabas) has been given a new lease of life by young chef Daniel Bernardelli, and it’s the place to be for tasty Italian tapas-style dishes with a Sardinian flare, alongside a great menu of classic pizza and pasta.

Enjoy a cocktail or two

There are plenty of amazing cocktail bars in Newcastle so why not raise a glass to the woman of the hour with a cocktail… or two?! High-end cocktail bar ChachaBuchi is all about rustic glamour, and their magical private chalet and decadent interiors will make sure your hen party is a chic affair. Their party planners will get everything right, whether you’re looking for fondue and cocktails or pizza slices and shuffleboards!

Meanwhile, former hidden gem Mother Mercy has earned its well-deserved flowers, twice ranked in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars, and praised by The Times. Ideal for escaping the chaos, their basement bar in the Cloth Market transforms into a lively hubbub of activity, hip-hop beats, and top-notch serves into the evening.

Hopefully it’ll be true that you’ll only marry once, so YOLO Townhouse on High Bridge will provide a suitably special backdrop for your celebration. Their trendy bar is fun and funky, while private spaces include bookable booths and snugs with minimalist décor and bespoke packages.

Or, for a real night to remember, why not book a table at the quirky WC, a converted Victorian water closet (yes, it was a toilet!), where you’ll find highly skilled bartenders crafting bespoke cocktails soundtracked by live music.

Mother Mercy Mother Mercy

If it’s a classy affair you’re looking for, The Botanist has friendly vibes, a great menu and an excellent cocktail list, making it a must-visit for drinks with the girls, plus their central location means it’s also a great pitstop on a shopping trip!

For a birds-eye view of the city, head to Vermont Hotel’s Above rooftop bar, where panoramic views provide an accompaniment to a classy wine list and variety of menu options, from party fare to afternoon tea.

But if you’d prefer to spend some quality time with your fellow hens – why not hire a space just for you and the gang to enjoy? Hidden away under Pleased To Meet You on High Bridge is their Viceroy private room, catering for up to 120 people and offering a variety of food and drink options.

See a show

If it’s top-notch entertainment you’re after, then the Toon has you covered! With incredible choreography, show-stopping costumes and hilarious comedy, Boulevard’s shows promise a night like no other! Danni Lee and Miss Rory can often be found starring alongside their fantastic cast of talented Broadway dancers, keeping you entertained all evening long.

Purple Peacock Purple Peacock

As you’d expect from Newcastle’s show-bar, Purple Peacock at 55 Degrees North is party central and their pulse-racing shows will make your night go off with a bang. Why not try out their Drunch (that’s ‘drunken brunch’, if you hadn’t worked it out) every Saturday, with performances around themes including Magic Mike, Coyote Ugly, Grease, West End shows and Girl Power!

Experience Newcastle's nightlife

After a change to the usual night out? Why not stop off at party staple Flares where there’s retro vibes aplenty, non-stop party classics and cheesy anthems that’ll mean you’ll never want to leave the dance floor!

If it’s an afternoon of rowdy fun you’re after, Howlers is the place to be. Their Bottomless Bonkers Ball every Friday and Saturday is tailor-made for stag and hen parties and includes a trip to their legendary ball pit, karaoke, boujee bingo, lip sync and limbo battles, party games and much more – all alongside bottomless Prosecco, beers, spirits and cocktails.

Howlers Howlers

For budding divas, Cosy Joes’ private hire karaoke rooms are all kinds of fun! Available to hire by the hour for 4-25 guests, their rooms feature high-tech touchscreen karaoke systems and push button drinks service, meaning you don’t even have to pause the action to queue at the bar!

Make a weekend of it

If you’re planning to go out on the Toon, but don’t fancy getting a taxi all the way home - or if you're a hen party visiting from further afield - why not make a weekend trip of it, and book a stay at one of Newcastle’s brilliant hotels?

If it’s luxury you’re after, then the newly opened Dakota Newcastle should be top of your list. This award-winning boutique hotel is situated on St. Ann’s Wharf, with gorgeous views over the Quayside, making it the ideal spot for brides-to-be looking for an escape from the city centre… without being too far away from all the action! Every room comes complete with Apple TV, a rainfall shower, luxury toiletries and super-soft bedding so you’re guaranteed to leave well-rested. Plus there’s a bar and grill on-site, promising a dining experience like no other to complete your stay.

For city-centre partygoers, you’ll want to check out Motel One. Located in the heart of the Newcastle on High Bridge, there’s loads of surrounding bars, clubs and venues to keep you enjoy during your stay. There’s a couple of different room types to pick from here, but rest assured that you’ll enjoy a good nights sleep regardless of your pick! Oh, and did we mention the range of organic products and Fairtrade coffee they dish up at breakfast? Delicious!

Or maybe you’re after a budget choice that doesn’t compromise on comfort? Newcastle is home to two Travelodge hotels that are definitely worth a look! Their standard rooms come with cosy bedding, blackout curtains and Freeview TV – but there’s the option to upgrade to a SuperRoom and enjoy the quieter floors, Lavazza coffee pod machine and more amenities if you fancy it.

We think we've made the case that Newcastle is the place to be if you want to celebrate your upcoming nuptials in style. Whether you fancy a riotous party, some decadent dining or an experience to remember - there's no city quite like Newcastle for your hen party celebrations.
