How to Celebrate Galentine's Day in Newcastle

Move over Valentine’s Day – we’re celebrating Galentine’s Day instead!

Last updated:

For some, February is all about Valentine’s Day – hearts, roses, romance and all that loved-up jazz.

But this month also marks Galentine’s Day. Taking place the day before Valentine’s Day on 13th February, it’s a time for celebrating female friendship and all the amazing women in your life.

It’s also the perfect excuse for a get-together with your gal pals and there’s plenty happening in Newcastle on and around Galentine’s Day to help you all celebrate each other in style.

Raise a glass or two with the girls

There’s nothing better than a catch up with your besties over a couple of drinks and Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse. Head to All Bar One on Grey Street between 7th and 16th February and take them up on their Galentine’s cocktail deal – two gorgeously refreshing Pink Grapefruit Collins for just £10.

If a couple of cocktails just won’t do, why not go bottomless at Slug & Lettuce on Grainger Street? They’re celebrating Galentine’s Day with In Fizz We Trust featuring sharing plates and as much prosecco as you and your pals can quaff in 90 minutes – all for just £25 per person too!

Become a cocktail connoisseur

If you’d rather get a bit more hands on with your drinks, book up for Gino D’Acampo Restaurant’s Galentine’s Cocktail Masterclass on 13th February. With the help of an expert mixologist, you’ll learn how to make three of their signature serves – and get to enjoy your creations with your besties too, of course!

Tickets cost £40 (including a welcome drink and tasty Italian nibbles), but they’ve got a great 2-for-1 deal going on for £20 until 11th February – better book up quick!

Get creative with a paint and sip experience

Fancy unleashing your inner artist with your BFFs this Galentine’s? Neville Street bar Tickets is teaming up with Boozy Brushes to host a very special Palentine’s Paint Party perfect for celebrating the occasion with tickets priced at £37 per person including a welcome drink to get those creative juices flowing.

If you and your pals would rather not have booze impede your inner Picassos, then the Galentine’s Sober Paint Night at Olive Kitchen is one for you. Tickets cost just £13.50 and include a non-alcoholic welcome drink on arrival. Whichever event you choose, all materials are provided and you’ll get to take home your masterpieces too!

Catch the ultimate chick flick

In case you haven’t head the news, Bridget Jones is back on the big screen this month with the fourth instalment in the much-loved film series, Mad About The Boy – and it’s being released on Galentine’s Day itself!

Head to The Gate with the gals and catch the film at Cineworld, or book up for movie night at Everyman Cinema on Grey Street and enjoy cocktails and sharing plates delivered to your seats as you watch. Tyneside Cinema are even hosting special Popcorn and Prosecco screenings  where you can enjoy a bit of Bridget with friends, fizz, popcorn and premium circle seating too!

Laugh yourself silly with anti-Valentine’s Day comedy

Let’s get things straight: Galentine’s Day isn’t necessarily against Valentine’s Day but it’s certainly a great antidote to all the romance in the air this time of year, especially if you and your gal pals are single and in no way ready to mingle!

If celebrating the single life is on your agenda this Galentine’s Day, book up for The Stand’s Anti-Valentine’s Day comedy night. With a line-up that includes Catherine Young, Anja Atkinson, Maxine Wade and Elaine Roberston, it’s bound to have you and your besties buckled with laughter all night long.

Go see a spectacular show

Treat you and your besties to an evening of amazing entertainment this Galentine’s! At legendary show bar Purple Peacock, they’ve got a couple of girl power-fuelled show nights planned around Galentine’s Day – The Coyote Dream and Lady Burlesque – featuring amazing performers, dazzling costumes and stunning choreography plus some pretty great drink and food packages available too!

Over at Boulevard, meanwhile, Galentine’s season coincides with the debut of their brand-new Spring Show. A “night out like no other” is guaranteed as the wonderful Danni Dee and Miss Rory take to the stage with their talented Broadway Dancers for a night of song, dance and their signature tongue-in-cheek humour.

Go wild and let your hair down

If it’s pure unadulterated fun you’re after, Newcastle naturally has you covered. Boogie on down to O2 City Hall on 15th February for some throwback fun with Disco For Grown Ups. Dance the night away to disco, pop and dance floor classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s – everybody gets a free glow stick and retro sweets too!

For bonkers bingo fun, look no further than Bongo’s Bingo at the Boiler Shop on 14th January. Undoubtedly one of the craziest nights out in the Toon, it’s perfect for letting your hair down with the girls – expect cheesy singalongs, dance-offs and amazing (and often quite weird!) prizes!

Whether you fancy celebrating your friends with fizz, a film or a fun night out, there’s something to suit in Newcastle. Happy Galentine’s Day!
