Five Minutes With.... Accent Original Bridal
We chat to the team behind Accent Original Bridal about their long history and recent move to Blandford Square
Accent Original Bridal has been a mainstay of Newcastle’s city centre for the last twenty-five years, kitting brides-to-be out with everything they’ll need for the big day.
In July, owner Gayle and the team moved from their original premises on Mosley Street to a brand-new space at Blandford Square so we caught up with them to talk about all things Accent Original Bridal.
Accent Original Bridal has been in the city for over 25 years – what is it about Newcastle that you love so much?
I love the buzz of the city - I can’t imagine not being in the city centre. Like I say we’ve been here for 25 years and we just can’t imagine anywhere else, or moving outside the city. It’s taken us a long time to find the right space in town but we’re just really happy here. It’s been worth the wait.
What do you love about the new space?
After 25 years at Mosley Street we were really restricted with the space that we had so it’s just amazing to have this new space. We can dance around, the brides can have their own areas and we’ve got a separate viewing area so it keeps everyone nice and private too.
You've got a fantastic space for brides to show off their dress. What was the inspiration behind that?
We wanted something new and fresh, something different for the brides. I think it’s a real experience for them so things like that are really part of the memories of their bridal journey for choosing their dress.
You stock some of the biggest world-renowned bridal designers. How do you go about curating that edit?
We’ve worked with the same designers for a long, long time and we do love them because within those designers they do a lot of styles - so there’s always contemporary, boho, classic, there’s always a bit of everything. Between the three of us who work here, when we buy, we’ve all got quite different tastes as well so we tend to cover all of the bridal styles that people are asking for.
We hear you also offer some bespoke seamstress services for your brides. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
We feel it’s really important because it gives the bride an experience from finding the dress and saying yes, to the day that she collects. It means we can offer everything from alterations – doing a hem, lifting the shoulders – but we can do something right through to something really bespoke. So if you’ve got a dream, or an image, something in your head that’s really bespoke then we can add, we can change, we can make the dress of your dreams.
