The weather might not be on our side, but there’s no shortage of half-term fun to be had with the kids in Newcastle this February!

From terrific theatre and creative classes to castle tours and a family-friendly silent disco, there’s loads for the whole family to get stuck into.

Half Term Fun @ Life Science Centre

As ever, Life Science Centre has a whole host of events to keep little would-be scientists busy this half term. Special guests Medical Mavericks will be bringing their phenomenal show to the centre (Saturday 22nd – Friday 28th February), while Just Look Up gives audiences the chance to tour the night skies in a presenter-led full-dome show. And that’s not forgetting their live show spectacular – packed with best bits from Life Science Centre’s past twenty-five years – and an immersive infinity room dedicated to recycling that shows just why every can counts!

Rude Science! @ Tyne Theatre & Opera House

If the kids have been inspired after your trip to the Life Science Centre, then why not catch Rude Science! at Tyne Theatre & Opera House this half-term holiday? This wonderfully silly show is designed to delight young audiences – whilst also aiming to inspire a lifelong love for the topic. Packed with revolting experiments to make complex biology, physics and chemistry feel more accessible, it’s one that’ll get the whole family laughing along.

Kids’ Castle Adventures Tour @ Newcastle Castle

Brave young warriors are invited to Newcastle Castle this Half-Term to test their strength on the Kids’ Castle Adventures Tour. Families will explore the historic venue like never before, hearing stories from the Castle’s past before braving a visit to the dungeon, attempting to triumph against renowned knight Sir Aymer de Atholl in combat, and trying their hand at archery before being knighted on the roof of the castle. Children’s Art Workshop: Create a Plate Design @ Hatton Gallery

Inspired by their current Sustainable Clay exhibition, Hatton Gallery’s “Ways to Play” programme continues this February with an art workshop for kids where little ones can create their very own plate design. Sessions are free to attend with no booking required, so it’s ideal for families on a busy schedule this half term!

Little Monks Cookery Club & Smart Cookies Cookery Club @ Blackfriars 

Kids can cook up a storm at Blackfriars Cookery School this month, with both their Little Monks and Smart Cookies Cookery Clubs! The former is for all 7-10 year olds, and designed to give them a confidence boost in the kitchen, learning everything from how to enjoy fruit and veg to making their very own lunch. The latter helps 11-17 year olds build on the basics of cooking, with a choice of delicious dishes for them to make throughout the session.
