Everything You Need to Know About… Oktoberfest Newcastle

The city’s biggest Bavarian bash is back this October with three whole weekends of fun

Last updated:

It’s time to dig out those dirndls and lederhosen because Oktoberfest Newcastle is making an epic return to the city this autumn.

Spread across three weekends, it’s set to be bigger and better than ever before with amazing vibes, entertainment, food and drinks. Planning on raising a stein or two? Read on for all the info you need to make the most of Oktoberfest Newcastle.

What is Oktoberfest Newcastle?

Described as “the biggest Bavarian party in the North”, it’s an epic celebration of Bavarian culture inspired by the annual Oktoberfest festivities held each year in Munich.

Now in its sixth year, Oktoberfest Newcastle has become a fixture on the city’s event calendar with thousands of revellers attending each year to party en masse Bavarian-style.

When is it happening?

Oktoberfest Newcastle is spread over three epic weekends from Friday 11th October to Saturday 26th October with nine different sessions to choose from.

Evening sessions kick off at 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and afternoon sessions take place from 12pm on Saturdays – perfect whether you’re an early bird or a night owl!

For a full list of dates and times, swing by the official Oktoberfest Newcastle website.

Where is it happening?

It’s taking over Times Square with a huge marquee transformed into a Bavarian-style beer hall complete with fully stocked bars, street food vendors and hundreds of bierkeller benches.

What entertainment will there be?

In the spirit of all things Bavarian, there’ll be music from Europe’s top oompah bands for you to dance the night away to. So far, Oktoberfest Newcastle have confirmed that Yorkshire-based brass band Flat Cap Brass will be playing – keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

What food and drink will there be?

Lovers of a good brewski or two are in for a treat with a smorgasbord of Bavarian wheat beers and German lagers available, plus a massive selection of spirits and cocktails for those who like something a little stronger too.

Food-wise, expect plenty of German treats – bratwurst, currywurst, frankfurters and pretzels included. Following a gluten-free or vegan diet? Fear not, there’ll be plenty of options available for you too!

How much are tickets?

Tickets for Friday festivities cost £7.50 or £5 if you’re a student (plus booking fees), while tickets for both Saturday daytime and evening sessions cost £10 plus booking fees. For booking details, visit www.oktoberfestnewcastle.co.uk. Tables can also be pre-booked for large parties – email [email protected] for more information.
