Whether you’re a seasoned gardener who knows their stuff – or you can’t tell celeriac and celery apart, Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival is encouraging everyone to get growing this September.
This free festival is bringing its celebration of the city’s allotments and parks to Exhibition Park on Sunday 15th of September and - as always - we’ve got all the details for this fantastic event, so you can concentrate on finding the perfect inspiration for your garden…
What is Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival?
The Newcastle Allotment and Garden Festival – organised and delivered by Urban Green Newcastle – is a free one-day festival that brings together food and drink, talks and workshops, live music, family activities, wellbeing sessions and much more. Highlighting how local communities can improve their health and wellbeing and the areas where they live by getting involved in gardening, growing and horticulture, the festival also promotes the importance of sustainability in protecting the environment.
As well as a jam-packed line-up of free entertainment and family fun, the festival will host the Newcastle Allotment and Garden Festival competition. Inviting green-fingers from across the region to enter, the competition celebrates gardening and growing with over 50 categories to enter whilst carrying on a much-loved tradition popular throughout the North East for many years.
When is Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival happening?
The festival takes place from 11am-4pm on Sunday 15th September, while the produce competition tent is open to entrants on Saturday 14th September.
Where is Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival happening?
The festival will take place in the heart of Newcastle in one of the city’s most popular parks; Exhibition Park.
What should I expect to find at Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival?
There’s loads going on this year, from live music to wellbeing sessions, so there’s no reason not to get the whole family involved!
Plot holders from across the North East will be sharing their handy tips and trips in “Trowels and Tribulations” (we love the pun!) – covering everything from climate conscious planting, to creating safe havens for wildlife in your garden. On top of that, there’ll also be live music from the likes of Northern Pride Voices and Ryan Bird, while workshops will even show you how to book bind, grow your own herb garden and craft your own tea.
Fancy getting your steps in? Why not try your hand at Zumba, yoga or tennis too! And not to forget, there'll also be hot food from vendors like Hake and Habibi - as well as community stalls attending too!

Anyone can attend Newcastle Allotment & Garden Festival! Whether you’re on the lookout for tips on creating your own herb garden, fancy trying out a circus workshop or just get some good grub, there’s something for everyone. Activities and entertainment throughout the day is catered to all ages making the event the perfect opportunity for a family day out.
