Everything You Need To Know About… NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week

NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is almost upon us so here's a handy guide to making the most of it

The summer edition of NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is almost here and we couldn't be more excited to sample all the city's best restaurants have to offer.

In case you haven’t got involved with the tastiest of all Tyneside celebrations before – or forgot how it all works – here’s a handy refresher!

What is NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week?

Twice a year, NE1 hosts Newcastle Restaurant Week, a seven-day celebration of the city's food scene (a scene that Which? Magazine recently named as one of the best in the UK). For that week, over 100 restaurants in the city offer meals at a heavily discounted price - £15, £20 and £25 - throwing open their doors to people who might not have had a chance to try them yet. This is Restaurant Week's thirteenth year and last year's editions were a huge success.

What is NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week designed to do?

Restaurant Week serves a number of purposes: it gives a boost to the city’s restaurants; it gives you the public the chance to try out some restaurants or cuisines you might not have; and it adds to the massive buzz around our city’s brilliant restaurant scene.

Last year, more than 115,000 diners took part across our January and August editions of Restaurant Week and that generated more than £2.2 million for the restaurant industry.

When is it taking place?

The next edition of NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week runs from Monday 5th August 2024 to Sunday 11th August 2024.

Which restaurants are taking part?

Over 100 city centre restaurants are taking part this summer. Some are old favourites – fixtures on the city’s food scene and long-time participants in Restaurant Week. We’re thinking places like Sachins, 21 and Blackfriars.

But there are also new names – to the city and to Restaurant Week – including new Indian restaurant Dakwala, Mexican restaurants El Guapo and Motel Mexicana and Hawaiian hotspot Hula Co.

The range of restaurants – from intimate bistros to vibey burger joints – means that Restaurant Week can be whatever you want it to be: perfect for a get-together with friends, a much-needed date night away from the kids, a family celebration or just a chance to treat yourself to something more than a cardboard sandwich for lunch.

Check out the full list of participating restaurants on the NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week page.

How much does it cost?

All participating restaurants offer discounts of either £15, £20 or £25 - covering everything from a selection of small plates to a full three-course meal depending on the restaurant. Even if you’re on a tight budget, you'll be able to enjoy some delicious food at a price you can afford.

How does it work?

It really couldn’t be simpler: find a restaurant you’d like to visit on the NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week page and reserve a table via the specified booking instructions (usually via email, phone or the restaurant's website). Then all you have to do is turn up and chow down on some delicious food!

Can i bring the kids?

Every restaurant will have its own rules and ambience so it’s worth checking their website, but lots of places taking part in Restaurant Week are family-friendly.

Restaurant Week is a fabulous celebration of our city’s food scene, finally getting recognised as one of the best in the country. With so many participating restaurants offering so many diverse cuisines, there’s no reason why you couldn’t order a little slice of Italy on Monday, a fistful of New York on Wednesday and a bowl of something Japanese on Saturday, all at bargain prices!

So, stop by the NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week page and get those tables booked!
