Despite being a busy, vibrant cinema, every room and screen in the gorgeous art deco Tyneside Cinema building is available for hire, so there’s a lot of options and a dedicated events team to help you make the most of what’s available. From the 30-capacity Digital Lounge to to the 200-seat Classic Cinema, a large range of attendance sizes are possible and naturally there’s a high level of A/V potential throughout. John Lewis, Eldon Square
We bet you didn't know that department store John Lewis has an event space for private hire on its second floor. Available for £10 per hour with a minimum two-hour booking and a maximum charge of £50 covering a full day from 10am to 5pm, it's perfect for modest budgets and is available for evening hire between 4pm and 8pm for just £50 too. While catering isn't provided, the Place to Eat on Floor 2 or ORI Cafe on Floor 1 are both perfect for food and refreshment breaks.
Malmaison, Quayside
As with everything else at the Malmaison, the private hire facilities are classy and well-equipped. There are four options – Mal One, Mal Two, the Private Dining Room and Chateau Lounge – with capacities varying depending on the type of event, from a boardroom format to something more theatre / presentation shaped. Malmaison also has the advantage of being a stone’s throw from a lot of major attractions and transport links in the city too, making it a convenient venue for attendees.
Chaophraya, Grey’s Quarter
As well as offering some of the finest Thai food in town, Chaophraya also offers some fine private hire spaces too. You can hire the entire venue of course (with a 180-person standing capacity) or avail yourself of two hire spaces: the Monument Terrace can hold 50 seated and 70 standing, while the Thai Garden can hold up to 20 people depending on format. The staff will work with you to arrange exactly the right option, from layout to catering, to make sure the event goes exactly as you’d like.
NUCASTLE, Diana Street
Part of the Newcastle United Foundation and situated right by the stadium, NUCASTLE has four spaces for hire, each with interactive whiteboards, televisions and WiFi and suitable for a range of purposes – classrooms, meetings, presentations, training and the rest. The smallest, the Sir Graham Wylie room, can seat 25, while the largest, the Sir Bobby Robson Suite, can take up to 70. Extras like projectors, refreshments and more can be provided on arrangement and you can even add in some team-building sports events or other activities.
Springbank Pavilion, Leazes Park
Springbank Pavilion is perhaps one of the most unique and scenic spaces for hire in the city - a small venue located in Leazes Park that can't fail to bring a certain rustic quality to your event. Recently refurbished, the main function room is fully fitted out for meetings and has some fine views of the park. The hourly rate is £25, with a half-day (4 hours) at £40 and a full day (8 hours) for £140.
Racquets Court, College Street
Racquets Court is an appealing modern and flexible workspace that offers meeting rooms for any fairly small events or meetings. Well-equipped and with a variety of refreshment and catering options (including the option of using local catering company Olivia’s Kitchen), the hourly rate is £40 and the daily rate £300. Variable packages for longer hires can be discussed with the hire team.
One Strawberry Lane, Strawberry Lane
Right in the heart of the city and run on similar collaborative workspace lines to Racquets Court, One Strawberry Lane is the epitome of the modern, post-pandemic business environment – with a strong ethical bent - and has meeting space opportunities to match. Newcastle Castle, Castle Garth
Very much NOT a modern workspace – which of course is the appeal – the dramatic setting of Newcastle Castle really could add something special to your event or meeting. From the more conventional Harbottle Suite to the stunning Great Hall, the castle has a number of spaces for hire and is a ‘dry hire’ venue so your options are limitless. The hire team are on hand to help you get things just right when it comes to planning your event.
Newcastle Arts Centre, Westgate Road
Newcastle Arts Centre runs a number of venues and spaces around Black Swan Courtyard and several of these are available to hire. From the small meeting room (8-10 capacity, £15 hourly rate) to Studio A (30 capacity, theatre style, £29.50 hourly rate), there are also not-for-profit reduced rates available and catering can be arranged via the Black Swan Bar.
