Euro 2024 (or the UEFA European Championship if we’re being formal) is almost upon us: the first match kicks off on June 14th in Munich where hosts Germany play Scotland, beginning a month of exciting European football.

Unless you’ve sprung for tickets to any of the German stadiums, you’ll probably be watching in Newcastle – in which case there’s an array of different venues hosting opportunities to catch the games. We’ve picked a few of the best places to congregate with other fans and soak up the atmosphere.

Central Park Fan Zone Euro 2024 Central Park Fan Zone Euro 2024

Central Park Euro 2024 Fan Zone, Times Square

Popular pop-up bar Central Park is once again taking over Times Square to host a fan zone, this time in collaboration with O.G. energy drink providers and sponsors Lucozade. They’ll be showing every match – sometimes two or three a day – from 14th June start to the final on 14th July. Entry is free except for England games and there’s a variety of ticket options for those. Expect pre and post match entertainment, street food and 50 metres of bars in Central Park’s iconic containers.

The WonderBar The WonderBar

The WonderBar, The Gate

Reliably lively bar The WonderBar – found on the first floor of The Gate – has a reputation for showing the best live sport, and they’re going all out for the Euros, showing all the games on their crystal-clear HD TVs throughout the bar. And while you’re there you can explore the food menu, play some bar games and enjoy live music too.

The Old George Inn, Old George Yard

Fancy seeing the England team’s latest success in the city’s oldest pub? Then head to The Old George where they’re showing every match of the tournament in the atmospheric old building (and on the outdoor screens), You can book for each match to secure a prime spot, and there are a variety of food and drink packages – from 40p wings to bottomless brunches – to keep you refreshed and well fed throughout.

Bar 52 Bar 52

Bar 52, Pilgrim Street

Bar 52 fits a lot in its Pilgrim Street premises, from karaoke to beer pong, wings to live sports, and for Euro 2024 it’s the latter we’re most interested in! They’ll be showing every game on their big screens and if you want to watch it all unfold in style, you can book a booth for you and your mates to enjoy as well.

NX Fanzone NX Fanzone

NX Euro 2024 Fan Zone, Westgate Road

NX is showing every England game so how many games they show depends on our progress beyond the group stage, but the Group C games are kicking things off (England play on 16th, 20th, 25th June). Tickets are £11.50 plus fees and NX is offering an exciting set-up with top level production values and plenty of pre- and post-match entertainment.

The Hancock The Hancock

The Hancock, Hancock Street

The Hancock is already one of the city’s best-loved pubs with a rep for a tasty food menu, fine drinks and plenty of atmosphere and entertainment. They’re also showing all the Euro 24 games AND you can book a seat in case it gets busy (it will get busy!) AND their fixture list is one of the most comprehensive we’ve seen!

Shearer's Bar Shearer's Bar

Shearer’s Bar, Strawberry Place

Where better than a bar actually adjacent to St James’ Park to watch what could be England’s best cup performance in years? Shearer’s Bar is incredibly well set up for watching matches, with 35 large screens throughout, private booths, an excellent atmosphere and an appealing food and drink menu to boot.

Point Blank Shooting Point Blank Shooting

Point Blank Shooting, Newgate Street

Mixing all the appeal of a typical US speakeasy style bar – with the beer and cocktails, pizzas, hot dogs and bar snacks that suggests – and then throwing in a simulated shooting ranch already makes Point Black a popular destination. But add to that the chance to see all the England games in a great atmosphere and it becomes a must visit, especially if you book a private booth with its own massive screen.

Frate Frate

FRATE Euro 2024 Fan Zone, High Bridge

Unique and vibey, FRATE is one of the most unusual and atmospheric bars in the city and an excellent place to catch all the Euro 2024 matches. Their fan zone (in association with Under Armour) promises big screen sport, DJs, pizzas from Slice Boys and a retractable roof in case the weather isn’t playing ball. The England games are ticketed (starting at £3) but the rest are open to all, no reservations needed.

BrewDog BrewDog

BrewDog, Dean Street

Best known for craft beer and unusual marketing, BrewDog is also a promising venue to watch the whole tournament. Expect big screens, bar food, beer offers and an opportunity to book a table if you want to enjoy the match in comfort.

The Victoria Comet The Victoria Comet

The Victoria Comet, Neville Street

One of the most storied – and centrally located – pubs in Newcastle, The Victoria Comet is a firm favourite with football fans all year round and should really come into its own for the Euros. There are big screens all over, a fine selection of beers, hearty and traditional pub grub and they’re showing all the games! You can book ahead too.

The Mayfair The Mayfair

The Mayfair, Newgate Street

A busy, bustling pub that is equal parts sports bar and party hangout, The Mayfair is a great spot to catch the games, with more than 10 screens and projectors throughout and plenty of drink and food promotions on match days. And if you book ahead, you can join in all the fun in the La Dolce Vita Suite, where you get a table, a couple of drinks each and some great views, all for just £10 per person.

Euro 2024 is going to be a whole heap of fun for serious football fans and more casual viewers alike, especially since there’s a cautious optimism that this might be the most ‘in contention’ England team in years. So why not pick a great Newcastle bar or fan zone to really get into the spirit and enjoy a great month of soccer thrills?
