Eldon Square's Summer of Fun!

We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be, but come rain or shine, Eldon Square’s exciting programme of free family activities promises to entertain and engage visitors of all ages!

Running every weekend throughout August, in the Community Quarter (opposite Chatime), there really is something for everyone.

From a castle-making workshop and sword training, to pizza-themed arts and car-themed crafts, we’ve got the low-down on Eldon Square’s Summer of Fun!

Friday 2nd August | North East Autism Society’s Arts & Crafts Fun

11am-3pm

First up, kids can embrace their creative side with an arts and crafts session hosted by the North East Autism Society! Whether you take the family for a spontaneous crafting session or some Lego building, this is also a fantastic way to support the work that the Society delivers.

Saturday 3rd August | The Children’s Foundation Summer Fun

11am-3pm

One of the North East’s leading children’s charities – The Children’s Foundation – also has plenty to entertain little ones. With hook the duck, face painting, and even a lucky dip, it’s definitely worth dropping by!

Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th August | Newcastle Castle 

11am-4pm

Next up, the team behind Newcastle Castle are taking Eldon Square back in time with replica medieval weapons and armour for visitors to try out. Feeling brave? They’ll even be some sword training sessions too!

Saturday 17th August | Newcastle Hospitals Charity

11am-3pm

From hula hoop challenges to dress up options, Newcastle Hospitals Charity is also helping to bring family fun to Eldon Square – while there’ll also be opportunities to learn more about the valuable work they do in the region as well.

Sunday 18th August & Sunday 25th August | Auckland Castle

11am-4pm

Meanwhile, the Auckland Project’s Programming Team helps to spark imaginations with an exciting castle-making workshop. Design and build your own pop-up castle to take home, bringing the history of Auckland Castle and the legendary Prince Bishops to life.

Friday 23rd August | Nissan

11am-4pm

The Nissan Skills Foundation involves young North East people in engineering, manufacturing and design – a mission they’re bringing along to Eldon Square with some exciting car-themed crafts to engage any automotive-obsessed kids.

Saturday 24th August | Red Sky Foundation

11am-3pm

Fancy learning a vital life skill? The team from Red Sky Foundation will be onsite teaching visitors more about CPR, how it works and how important early defibrillation really is. The team will also be able to education people old and new about the vital work they do raising funds for babies and children across the North East.

Friday 30th August | Pizza Express

11am-3pm 

Pizza Express is also getting a slice of the action this summer, offering fantastic pizza-themed arts and crafts – including the chance to colour in your own chef’s hat! 

Saturday 31st August | North East Family Arts Network

11am-4pm

North East Family Arts Network’s Family Explorers programme is bringing arts and crafts, dressing up and science activities to Eldon Square this summer. A fun and engaging session to entertain the family – what’s not to love?
