If you’re looking to get out and about this bank holiday, then you’re in the right place because we’ve selected some of the best things happening over the Easter weekend in Newcastle – from foodie fun and family-friendly events to comedy and crafts.

Symphonic Ibiza @ Boiler Shop

Why not take a trip to the Balearic Islands this bank holiday weekend with Symphonic Ibiza at the Boiler Shop? Fusing a full live orchestra with high tempo DJ beats and live vocals, it promises an evening of the most iconic Ibiza dance anthems and a fond reminder for anyone who’s danced the night away in one of the White Isle’s famous clubs.

Bank Holiday Show @ The Stand 

The Stand’s annual bank holiday comedy show is back to give us all a good giggle this Easter Sunday. Hosted by local funnyman Matt Reed, there’ll be laughs courtesy of Abigoliah Schamaun, Cameron Jones and Ian Younghusband before hilarious headliner Steve Hall graces the stage.

Bottomless Drag Brunch Bonanza @ Rusty’s

If you really fancy letting your hair down this Easter bank holiday, then a visit to Rusty’s is a must. Join the drag-tastic “Rusty’s Girls” for an afternoon of unfiltered fun with drag bingo, dance-offs, food and drink and – of course – plenty of laughs. Standard tickets get you entry to the show and a retro “Sassy Meal” but for a little extra you can upgrade to bottomless bubbles or cocktails too!

Beasts on the Green & Toon Underground Parade @ Great North Museum: Hancock / Exhibition Park

Newcastle Puppetry Festival makes a welcome return to the city this April and it all kicks off with two fantastic free events happening over the bank holiday weekend – perfect for some money-saving family fun this Easter! First up, it’s Beasts on the Green at 11am in the gardens of Great North Museum: Hancock featuring puppets like Eikthynir the Elk, Delilah the Elephant and Jabberwocky and at 2pm, Toon Underground takes over Exhibition Park with a parade exploring the hidden nature and eco-systems of Newcastle.

Good Friday Stories & Crafts @ Newcastle Cathedral

There’s more free family fun to be had at Newcastle Cathedral on Good Friday with a fantastic morning of crafts exploring the Easter story. Part of the Messy Church movement, there’ll be stories, songs and activities for little ones ages 4 to 11 and their parents. While it’s free to attend, booking is encouraged to ensure there’s enough space and materials for everyone to enjoy.

Wylam Brewery’s food battle calendar is in full swing and this year’s edition of Battle of the Burger is a very special one because it’s the tenth anniversary of the epic burger fest. It’s set to be bigger and better than ever before with more vendors, more bars and more grub as the best burger flippers from across the North East duke it out for the best burger crown. Entry is free but you’ll need to buy tokens to tuck in to all those delicious burgers – and don’t forget to vote for your favourite!

Good Friday Paint & Sip Party @ Central Oven + Shaker

Fancy yourself something of an artist? Show off your skills and unleash your inner Picasso with a paint and sip party this Good Friday. There’ll be hundreds of pictures to paint – including some seasonal Easter options – and host venue Central Oven + Shaker has some great 2-4-1 cocktail deals to help get those creative juices flowing. The best part? A masterpiece of your own making that you get to take home and hang on your wall!

Spring Family Show @ Boulevard

Back by popular demand, Boulevard’s Spring Family Show returns this Easter Sunday with fun for kids aged 5+ … and their parents, of course!
