NE1's Ultimate Student Guide: 10 Excellent Entertainment Discounts

Break the ice with your new flatmates and make the most of student discounted entertainment across Newcastle

Last updated:

Look, we all know how tricky it can be to find mates at uni. So ditch the awkward dinners this semester, and head out to explore Newcastle for even less!

Whether you want to catch the latest blockbusters, theatre and comedy or enjoy some friendly competition at the likes of Lane7 and YuMe World, read on for some excellent entertainment discounts in Newcastle just for students!

EXIT Newcastle, Westgate Road

What better way to break the ice than literally being locked in a room together? With the clock counting down and only one way out, EXIT Newcastle escape rooms are a great way to put your differences aside and have a laugh together. Students can grab 10% off the booking total – so whoever left the washing out for a week will seem like the least of your issues!

Northern Stage, Barras Bridge

Based on Newcastle university’s campus, Northern Stage is handily placed wherever you’re studying! From comedy and choirs, to drama and drag, there’s always something going on here – and handily, students can enjoy discounted tickets on selected shows. There’s even a café bar on site, so you can enjoy a pre-show drink or study session too!

YuMe World, The Gate

From dramatic dance showdowns to bombastic zombie brawls, YuMe World’s got a huge range of classic arcade games to enjoy – and a stellar student saving to help level-up your midweek plans. Head there on Wednesdays between 11am and 10pm, where you’ll get an extra £5 credits when you purchase a £10 YuMe World Player Card.

Tyneside Cinema - Allen Mushen

Tyneside Cinema, Pilgrim Street

Whether you want to catch the biggest blockbusters, or alt-indie features, Tyneside Cinema’s Young Tyneside Card allows you to enjoy them all for less. Offering discounted tickets, no online booking fees and 10% off in Tyneside Bar Café and Vicolo – this little card is definitely not to be underestimated. Oh, and did we mention that it’s free? Even better!

Game of Throwing, The Gate

If it’s serious competition you’re after, then head to Game of Throwing inside The Gate. Compete with your mates to score the highest on the target board and be declared the champion. Not convinced? Game of Throwing have axed their prices with 20% off for students!

Lane7

Lane7, St James’ Blvd

Roll on into Lane7 to enjoy a hefty 50% student discount! You’ll need to be signed up with the folks over at Student Beans for this one, then you can hit strikes and spares to your heart’s content.

Point Blank, Newgate Street

Smoke the leader board at Point Blank Newcastle with their student offer. You’ll be able to fuel up for less with 30% off food and drink for students – so if the loser’s forfeit is paying the bill, then biting the (bank) bullet will hurt just that bit less.

The Stand, High Bridge

If you’re looking for laughs, then The Stand is the place to be. This iconic comedy club has no shortage of events on throughout the week – from legendary comedy night Red Raw, to contemporary comedians like Sophie Duker and George Lewis. There’s no funny business when it comes to their tickets though, since plenty of shows offer concession prices for students to save you a couple of quid.

Newcastle Castle

Newcastle Castle, The Black Gate

All your learning doesn’t have to just happen inside the lecture theatre – so why not take advantage of Newcastle Castle’s student prices? For just over a tenner, you’ll be able to use your ticket for the whole year, exploring the city’s history and enjoying captivating views across the Toon.

Junkyard Golf Club, Newgate Street

Think you know crazy golf? Think again, with a visit to Junkyard Golf Club. There’s three 9-hole courses to pick from here, full of weird and wonderful stuff that makes scoring a hole-in-one just that bit more difficult – but makes for some very Instagrammable photo opps! Students can battle one of their 9-hole courses here for just £6 each, making it the perfect post-lecture meet-up or easy evening out.

So next time you’re taking a study break, take the plans out of the group chat and make the most of your student discount at these fantastic venues. Work hard, play hard, as they say!
