The weather may be cooling down, but the city’s music scene is certainly hotting up over the next few months.

Whether you’re a techno head, a heavy metaller or want to discover rising talents from the North East region, Newcastle’s music scene won’t disappoint this autumn – see you at the front row?

The Last Dinner Party The Last Dinner Party

September

Newcastle is set to welcome a wealth of international music talent this September. Niger-born musician Mdou Moctar brings his eclectic sound – a fusion of modern rock and Tuareg guitar to the Boiler Shop with tracks from his new album Funeral for Justice (3rd September), and the rock ‘n’ roll theme continues at the venue later in the month with a set from American-Australian hard rock supergroup The Dead Daisies (15th September).

If club anthems are more your thing, head to NX to catch internationally renowned Italian DJ Deborah De Luca who’ll be hypnotising crowds with her melodic mix of house, techno and electro (13th September).

British music talents are well represented in September too with O2 City Hall Newcastle welcoming London indie rockers The Last Dinner Party on a headline tour of their critically acclaimed debut album Prelude to Ecstasy (23rd September), and Glasgow-based band DopeSickFly bringing their funk-rock hybrid sound to The Newgate Social (20th September).

October

October kicks off with a celebration of local music talent at the Boiler Shop with the 2024 edition of Generator Live Festival. Hosted by Generator and BBC Music Introducing, there’ll be sets from regional rising talents including Middlesbrough indie-folk musician Finn Forster and Whitley Bay-born singer-songwriter L Devine (5th October).

Music fans will be spoilt for choice come mid-October with dance-pop sensation Becky Hill bringing her chart-smashing songs to Utilita Arena and iconic Britpop band Sleeper performing an unplugged set at Wylam Brewery (both 13th October).

The great gigs keep on coming later in the month too. Catch former The Jam frontman Paul Weller showcasing songs from his latest album 66 at O2 City Hall Newcastle (24th & 25th October) and don’t miss Yorkshire-born jungle/drum and bass DJ Nia Archives who’ll be spinning tracks from her debut studio album Silence Is Loud at NX on Halloween (31st October).

Scooter Scooter

November

Moving into November, there’s enough to keep music fans entertained all the way up to the festive season. Indie R&B star Alfie Templeman takes to the stage at the Boiler Shop early in the month with songs from his experimental new album Radiosoul (2nd November), while techno legends Scooter are sure to have happy hardcore fans dancing the night away a few days later at Utilita Arena (5th November).

A must-see for metalheads, Cradle of Filth promise a legendary show when they make a stop-off at NX on the Newcastle leg of their By Order of the Dragon tour (8th November) but iff that’s a little heavy for your tastes, book up for indie rock/bedroom pop talent Beabadoobee who’ll be treating her Geordie fans to tracks from her latest album This Is How Tomorrow Moves at O2 City Hall (13th November).

Rounding out the autumn music season in Newcastle, Australian guitar-pop duo Royal Otis are playing at Newcastle Uni Students’ Union at the end of the month. Expect infectious anthems like Going Kokomo, plus new sounds from their debut album Pratts & Pain (30th November).

Hopefully our round-up of the city’s best upcoming gigs has given you music fans some inspiration and with such a diverse scene, there’s something to enjoy whether you fancy rocking out in the mosh pit, throwing some shapes to techno sounds or chilling with some bedroom pop.
