5 Minutes With: Danny Mac - Star of Sunset Boulevard, Theatre Royal
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning masterpiece, Sunset Boulevard takes to the Theatre Royal stage this autumn from Monday 9th until Saturday 14th October.
Starring Ria Jones as Norma Desmond and Strictly’s Danny Mac as Joe Gillis, it’s a star-studded, must-see show telling a compelling and romantic tale. Norma Desmond is living in a fantasy world in her mansion on Sunset Boulevard when screen writer, Joe Gillis stumbles upon her reclusive life.
Joe is seduced by Norma and her luxurious lifestyle and becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic world until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free - but of course, with dramatic consequences! This dazzling display has a much-loved score, some fabulous costumes and promises to be spectacular from start to finish.
NE1 catch up with former Hollyoaks and Strictly Come Dancing star, Danny Mac as he takes to the Theatre Royal stage...
First time on the Toon?
I've only been once for the Strictly Tour earlier this year. We had a manic tour schedule so I only saw the hotel and the immediate arena. But I'm looking forward to making a week of it this time!
Have you brought your coat?
I have brought my coat, yes! Although I hear if I want to fit in then I should leave it at home?
Best Tyneside moment?
With this being my first proper trip I'm hoping to make a few this week.
Favourite Geordie?
Alan Shearer!
NE1 plans?
I've had the pleasure of touring the country a lot but I've not spent enough time in Newcastle, so I'm looking forward to getting about the city and getting a feel for the place and the wonderful people. A lot of my good friends are from near here so I have high hopes. I'm also a big burger fan and will be hunting out Newcastle’s best burger and any local ales! Feel free to tweet/insta me suggestions: @DannyMacOnline.
(Hey Danny, why not check out our favourite burger joints and craft ale spots online)
What would you be doing if you weren’t here now?
I'd probably be at home with family and my dogs, figuring out a way to be doing this or something similar.
Fun fact?
I was a very chubby kid. So much so, in fact I was up for Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter movies!
