REJUVENATED CITY BATHS

A major multi-million pound restoration of the Grade II Listed City Baths is weeks away from opening. The luxurious leisure venue is soon to be unveiled as the city’s lifestyle attraction. ULTRAFAST INTERNET IN THE TOON, YOU SAY?

Watch out 2020, our city is working closely with leading telecommunications firm Commsworld, to deliver world-class connectivity speeds to businesses around the Toon! Yep, that’s right businesses in NE1 will be able to access ultrafast internet connectivity very soon. Consultation meetings have taken place and work should start in early 2020 to deliver these benefits to the first customers, we can’t wait!

MILESTONE FOR HADRIAN’S TOWER!

The team behind Newcastle tallest skyscraper reached an exciting construction milestone recently!
A ‘topping out ceremony’ has taken place at Hadrian’s Tower, meaning the 27-storey building has reached its full height and work on the 161 apartments can now begin! Featuring a Laurent Perrier Champagne Sky Lounge on the top floor, this dazzling development promises to be one of the finest living spaces in Newcastle!

EAST PILGRIM STREET REDEVELOPMENT 

Work will soon begin on the much discussed Bank House, opposite Alvinos, as part of the mega plans to develop East Pilgrim Street into a stunning £200m luxury culture hub! Moving further up Pilgrim Street towards Northumberland Street, keep your eyes peeled for a full revamp of the former fire station, due to be converted into a restaurant, as well as a lavish hotel with up to 250 bedrooms springing up at the Carliol House site (on the corner before STACK). This amazing and transformative development in the heart of the city is certainly one to watch!

WE’LL GIN TO THAT!

WC Newcastle Ltd, the developers behind the Bigg Market Gents WC transformation, are back in action and have recently won planning permission to transform the lesser known female loos on High Bridge. A glorious new gin bar has been given the green light and we’re hoping for an early to mid-2020 opening! The Gin Closet would be one of the UK’s smallest drinking venues, but with big plans no doubt!

GLOBAL CONNECTIONS

Northumbria Uni has joined forces with Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev, to create the first ever National Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship (NCCE). Acting as a national hub for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Ukraine, the NCCE will use the expertise, knowledge and skills from Northumbria's academics to develop enterprise skills and support the creative economy across seven countries! northumbria.ac.uk

ROCK ’N’ ROLL TOON

Iconic American restaurant chain, Hard Rock Cafe are all set for a grand opening on Newcastle Quayside in 2020 after Newcastle City Council gave the final seal of approval. Set to become the chain’s first ever location in the North East, the team are hard at work renovating NE1’s historic Guildhall just in time for Newcastle’s jam-packed summer schedule. SENSATIONAL STARTUP WEEK

Newcastle Startup Week returns to the Toon for the fourth time in May of this year. Taking place around multiple city centre venues, this inspiring entrepreneurship and innovation festival welcomed over 800 professionals and business leaders to the Toon last year, and numbers look set to rocket once again as we welcome people from all across the world to the Toon! Check out their 5 days of events, which offer valuable insight into everything you need to know when starting a business, we’re so proud Newcastle is home to the largest business start-up festival in the UK!

MAJESTIC MALHOTRA PLANS

All eyes on Mosley Street, Cloth Market and Grey Street for 2020!
