Is there a more delicious food than pizza? Those crispy crusts and fluffy bases laden with cheesy goodness and any kind of topping imaginable – just the thought of it is enough to make your mouth water!

We’re lucky enough to have loads of amazing places in Newcastle serving up slices of heaven, so read on and get a pizza the action at one of these restaurants.

I Scream For Pizza, Quayside

Cool, contemporary and conveniently located on the Quayside, I Scream For Pizza (pictured above) is ideal for grabbing a slice on the go. New York-inspired pizza is the name of the game and they’re available by the slice or as 14” and 20” pies. Choose from the likes of Brooklyn’s Finest which boasts a garlic butter base, double pepperoni and a trio of cheeses and team your pizza with a delicious dip like black truffle aioli or chilli honey.

Pizza Hut, The Gate

American chain Pizza Hut has been a staple for pizza fans since it first migrated to the UK back in the 1970s, and its Newcastle branch in The Gate is an ideal stop off if you’re having fun at one of the entertainment complex’s other outlets. They have a range of different pizza base options too – from thin crust and deep pan to gluten-free and stuffed crust – and a daily lunchtime buffet that offers unlimited pizza, pasta, breadsticks and salad.

Pizza Punks Pizza Punks

Pizza Punks, Grey Street 

Non-conformist pizza joint Pizza Punks rips up the rulebook when it comes their food - taking inspiration from traditional Neapolitan pizza recipes, using the finest Italian ingredients and adding a unique sourdough base handmade in-house. Choose from a number of classic pies or create your own pizza from a range of unlimited toppings – black pudding, 'nduja and plant-based meatballs included.

Central Oven + Shaker, Neville Street

Conveniently located across from Central Station, Central Oven + Shaker is a late night pizza restaurant and cocktail bar that serves Neapolitan-style pies – think light and puffy edges, San Marzano tomato sauce and Fior de Latte cheese. Their menu features classics like margherita and pepperoni but diners can also mix it up with something a little different like salmon, 'nduja and mascarpone, and sliced hotdog pizzas too.

DoughDaze, Ridley Place

Bringing a slice of the Big Apple to Newcastle, DoughDaze is a New York-inspired pizza joint with one foot firmly in the 1990s – think retro vibes, vinyl seating and cool chequered floors. The pizzas are just as good with soft doughy bases, delicious toppings and signature house blend cheeses – better yet, all ingredients are locally sourced too.

Twenty Twenty Twenty Twenty

Twenty Twenty, Bigg Market

Put simply, the pizzas at Bigg Market hotspot Twenty Twenty are HUGE. So-called for its 20 signature cocktails and massive 20” pizzas, it’s the perfect place to head for a feast with friends or family. A whole host of inventive pizzas – like The Italian Job topped with salami, 'nduja, pepperoni, pancetta and rocket – are served and they’re available by the slice as well. Vegans are well catered for too with the option to top pizzas with vegan cheese and vegan chicken.

Pizza Express, Eldon Square

As Britain’s first pizza chain, Pizza Express know a thing or two about cooking up tasty pies and their Eldon Square branch is a great spot for a bite to eat while out on a shopping trip. They offer a number of pizza options – from calzones to the thin and crispy Romana – all available with a range of different toppings to suit every palate. On a health kick? Try the Leggera pizza which comes with a salad-filled hole and a third fewer calories than the Romana.

Pizza Slice, Grainger Market

Out traipsing the stalls at Grainger Market? Why not refuel with some gorgeous grub at Pizza Slice? The takeaway spot is perfect for a quick bite while shopping and serves up all the classics – from margheritas to meat feasts – and a range of hearty calzones too. As its name suggests, pizza slices are the order of the day but 18” pizzas are available if you’re feeling particularly peckish.

Square Square

Square, Market Street

The pizzas at this Market Street haunt are served Detroit-style - deep dish and square with a crispy base, fluffy centre and the delicious addition of a caramelised cheese crust. Available by the slice or as 10” or 14” pies that feed two to three people, Square is perfect for solo lunches and mate dates. If you love your pizzas meaty, you’re in luck too thanks to a collab with their burger expert neighbours Lola Jeans which spawned a couple of irresistible burger-topped pies.

BrewDog, Dean Street

BrewDog might be better known for its craft beers, but the Dean Street joint also offers a mouth-watering menu of sourdough base pizzas – half of which are vegan or vegetarian-friendly. Try pies like the Parma Karma (tomatoes, Parma ham, rocket and parmesan) and the Vegan Spicy Meaty with seitan strips, wild mushrooms and chilli or go for BrewDog’s bottomless brunch on weekends to enjoy a pizza with unlimited beer or prosecco.

Rudy's Rudy's

Rudy's, Grey Street

Manchester-born pizza chain Rudy's set up shop on Grey Street in late 2024, much to the delight of Geordie pizza fans across Newcastle and beyond. Serving up classic Neapolitan-style pizzas - fluffy, light and made fresh daily - pizza fans can choose from menu staples like the Cinghiale (wild boar salame, 'nduja, roquito peppers, fresh chilli) and the Capricciosa (prosciutto cotto, Kalamata olives, portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts) plus monthly pizza specials and some tempting sides and desserts.

Société Café Bar, Grey Street

A European-style spot nestled at the top of Grey Street, Société Café Bar serves up breakfast sweet treats and tiptop cocktails but is also known for its tasty pizzas which boast a delicious thin crust crafted from dough made in-house. Regular discounts and offers make their pizzas – like the chicken and sweetcorn, the roasted veg and ricotta and the Parma ham with mushroom – even more enticing.

Firestone Artisan Firestone Artisan

Firestone Artisan, Haymarket Metro

If you’re heading in or out of Newcastle via Haymarket Metro, you’ll be hard pushed to resist grabbing a slice of pizza perfection at Firestone Artisan. Their delicious dough is hand-crafted daily on site and their New York City-style pies are understandably popular – try the veggie-friendly Madison Garden topped with mushrooms, peppers, red onion and sundried tomatoes or the Rockaway Beach Hawaiian with pineapple, Mortadella ham and herbs.

Whether you fancy a slice on the go or a full-on feast, traditional Italian-style recipes or something with a New York twist – Newcastle is full of restaurants serving pies so tasty they’re bound to steal a pizza your heart.
