12 Of The Best Sunday Lunches In NE1

Fancy a roast? We've gathered twelve of the best in Newcastle!

Last updated:

We love a Sunday dinner up here in the Toon – Yorkshire puds, roasties, and a mountain of veg, not to mention the gravy… our mouths are watering just thinking about it!

There’s no better time to dig into a roast, on a relaxing Sunday, when you fancy a bit of comfort food, so we’ve rounded up the best places to head to for your next slap up meal.

Victors, Newcastle Quayside

For a gorgeous Sunday roast and equally gorgeous interiors - book a table at Victors! Not only will you enjoy their stunning Quayside location, but a mouth-watering menu including the likes of zucchini and cashew bake, as well as focaccia and rosemary stuffed pork belly. Can't pick? There's even the Victors 'Trio' Roast, a selection of beef, pork belly and roast chicken served - like all their roasts - with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, mash potato, seasonal vegetables and red wine jus. Delicious!

Dobson & Parnell, Queen Street

Local favourite Dobson & Parnell has won multiple awards for its refined British and European fare and we're pretty sure its delicious Sunday lunches are a major part of the appeal. Their Sunday dinner offering is concise and classy with two dishes available for £24 and three for just £29. Why not start with the charred mackerel or confit duck terrine before diving into roast beef or pork served with Yorkshires, roasties, cauliflower cheese and greens? There are pescatarian and vegetarian options too and who could resist desserts like pineapple upside down cake and vanilla panna cotta?

Tomahawk, Quayside

We can all agree, one of the most difficult decisions on a Sunday is what roast to choose. At Tomahawk they certainly understand, and that is why you can enjoy all three meats ‘The Sharing Board’ for only £16.95 per person. Experience a meat-lovers Sunday dream and enjoy all the goodness that comes with it. Stuffing? Roasties? Yorkshire pudding? Don’t worry, they have it ALL sorted, as well as the red wine gravy!

Banyan, Monument Mall

Is anyone else’s favourite part of a Christmas dinner the pigs in blanket? Well, Banyan have definitely got their memo right, serving the holiday classic all year round! In the heart of the city centre, pop in as part of your retail therapy or why not make it an occasion for you and your chums! Not only having a delicious 2 course offer, but also offering a fizzling twist. Make your Sunday sparkle, and enjoy unlimited bottomless drinks of Prosecco, beer and even cocktails!

Hotel du Vin, City Road

Sunday lunch at Hotel Du Vin is something else: whether you’re keeping it casual with the family, or dining in style, it’s up there with the best of them in Newcastle. In an elegant Edwardian interior, diners can choose between hearty beef or juicy chicken with all the trimmings. If you fancy a little more with your deliciously decadent main course, why not enjoy a flavoursome soup starter and an indulgent dessert of your choice. Treat yourself to a bucks fizz or champagne if you’re celebrating, or go classic with a glass of red.

The Bridge Tavern, Akenside Hill

The team over at The Bridge know the golden rule of Sunday dinner: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They keep things simple and traditional with a choice of pork, chicken, or beef, the latter being fresh from Northumberland’s very own Wallington Estate. It’s a cosy little joint that keeps its northern roots at the very centre of its menu. For Newcastle locals and visitors alike, The Bridge is a home from home, and its tasty dinners are a large part of the appeal. Settle in for some seasonal veg and gorgeous gravy this autumn.

The Forth, Pink Lane

Sundays at The Forth have something of a cult following among foodies in Newcastle, with rave reviews for the intimate and old fashioned little pub. Stop by for a wholesome roast with plenty of roasties and Yorkshires, and add a healthy dose of gravy to complete the treat. With newspapers scattered about the place and a fine selection of board games to keep you occupied while your dinner settles, it’s got all the comforts of home, but without the washing up. The ideal way to beat back the Sunday blues and relax at the end of a busy week.

ChachaBuchi, Collingwood Street

This may surprise you but yes, Newcastle's chicest nightclub also offers a mouth-watering Sunday roast. Toons latest hotspot offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a chill-down Sunday. Enjoy your dinner, with kids, veggie and vegan options available, and finish with fondue and a fire pit!

Pleased To Meet You, High Bridge

Move over gin, there’s a new kid in town at PTMY, and it goes by the name of Sunday dinner. Devised by head chef David Kennedy, the Sunday menu puts a very British spin on the eatery’s trademark French cuisine, with mouth-watering results. Enjoy local produce from fish to meat and veg, all in a stylish yet relaxing interior. Be sure to get suited and booted as you gather family or pals together and make an occasion of it.

Gusto, Quayside

Why not head down to Gusto’s for quite literally a cracking roast this Sunday? Delve into the classics, like beef, pork and chicken or a Mushroom and Red Wine Pudding as a vegan option. Gusto loves but so do we! Dine at the lavish restaurant and enjoy a Italian twist with some cauliflower ‘carbonara’ with cheese in your dinner. What’s more? Your little ones roast also includes free ice-cream for dessert!

The Broad Chare, Broad Chare

Lamb lovers, listen up! The Broad Chare offer a slow cooked lamb shoulder which we be sure to make you smoulder. The proper pub sure serves their proper food just right, including all the trimmings to go along with it. Didn’t think it could get better? The Broad Chare’s location is down the Quayside so a great place to pop in on your Sunday Stroll.

Gino D'Acampo Restaurant Quayside, Quayside

Spend your Sunday with a sizzling roast at Gino’s. Enjoy a delicious meal whilst looking out on stunning views of the River Tyne. Tuck into slow roast beef or a herb roast chicken. What’s more? If one course isn’t enough, then delve into 2 or 3 courses with a special offer. Buon appetito!

So there you have it! If you decide to enjoy a delicious roast, let us know where you go!
