August 2024: 10 Unmissable Events in Newcastle

We’re back with our monthly round-up, and there’s no shortage of things to do in the city this August.

From a nineties-themed festival to the Red Bull Tyne Ride, and of course, the return of NE1’s beloved Restaurant Week – calling August a jam-packed month would probably be an understatement!

Not to worry though, we’ve rounded up this month’s most exciting events to pick from, so all you’ll need to worry about is getting those tickets booked.  

NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week  

5th-11th August 2024 / Prices from £15, £20 & £25

Of course, Restaurant Week is back and bigger than ever! With over one hundred venues taking part this August, there’s no shortage of £15, £20 and £25 deals to pick from – whether you love an Acropolis gyro, or a classic Dabbawal curry! And don't forget to enter our Restaurant Week celebration competition to be in the chance of winning £250 worth of vouchers too!

NOVUM @ The Civic Centre 

8th-11th August 2024, Free / From £15 

After the huge success of its debut last year, multi-artform festival NOVUM is making a welcome return to the city this month. Boasting everything from poetry to DJ Yoda and Circus artists, this incredible event turns the city into a cultural playground just waiting to be explored.  

NE1’s Music by the Marina @ Quayside 

17th August / Free 

Following the success from last year’s inaugural event, NE1 has teamed up with HMV for the second year of Music by the Marina this August. This tune-tastic free music event boasts an eclectic mix of genres and styles, with five local artists building the line-up: Spilt Milk, Lauren Lamore, James Berry, Lilly Crisp and Geoff Mull. We’ll see you down there! 

Red Bull Tyne Ride @ Newcastle Quayside 

3rd August / Free 

Kicking things up a gear, Red Bull Tyne Ride comes to Newcastle’s Quayside this August. The world’s toughest motorcycle race sees fourteen pros and eight wildcards competing over three rounds before the final head-to-head along the epic course. Inspired by the adrenalin-fueled world of action sports, this route is one you definitely don’t want to miss. 


Summer in the City @ The Farrell Centre  

20th-1st September 2024 / Free 

The Farrell Centre’s opening its doors this Summer to spark everyone’s imagination with a packed program of events, workshops and exhibitions. Whether you join the Minecraft Club, learn about the magical art of Cyanotype printing, or simply want to enjoy lunch in the Centre’s picnic spots, there’s something for all the family to enjoy.  

Summer of Fun @ Life Science Centre 

20th July – 1st September 2024 / Ticket prices vary 

From thrilling live shows to exciting experiments, the Life Science Centre’s Summer of Fun is sure to quench anyone’s thirst for knowledge. Budding scientists can join the Earth Defenders in the fantastic new Planetarium show, feel what it’s like to be an Astronaut in the Space Zone, and try their hand at some exciting experiments too.   


Lord Of The Wings @ Wylam Brewery 

23rd – 24th August 2024 / Free

Wylam Brewery’s famous Food Battles series continues with Lord of the Wings. We can’t promise that Gandalf will be present, but the city’s best wingmasters certainly will be across this two day event, dishing up their fine fowl, Wylam’s excellent drinks, and plenty of entertainment too.  

Come From Away @ Theatre Royal 

6th – 10th & 12th – 17th August 2024 / From £20 

The multi-award winning show Come From Away lands in Newcastle’s Theatre Royal this month, telling the heartwarming story of how seven thousand stranded airline passengers came together in a small Canadian town after 9/11. This uplifting true story almost always has audiences on their feet – and we’re sure Newcastle will be no different.  


90s Baby Festival & Trickfest @ Town Moor

90s Baby Festival: 4th August 2024 / From £34.50 

The teams behind JBM Music and LooseFest are getting Newcastle up and dancing in August with 90s Baby Festival and Trickfest. The first promises an epic all-day celebration of the era with some of its most memorable icons (we’re talking Ronan Keating, Peter Andre and Atomic Kitten), while the latter sees some of the best DJs around hitting the decks over three stages.  

The Crafty Bazaar @ Wylam Brewery

Your go-to for all things crafty this month is of course the upcoming Crafty Bazaar at Wylam Brewery! Following the success of its inaugural edition, this smorgasbord of local designers and small business owners has plenty of lovingly crafted goodies – and might even encourage you to pick up a new hobby or two! Of course, Wylam’s beloved bar will be open during the day for refreshments, and it’s even dog-friendly – so none of the family has to miss out! 


Mela @ Exhibition Park 

25th – 26th August 2024 / Free 

For its 30th anniversary, Newcastle Mela is back and bigger than ever, as the two-day event allows visitors to experience the music, food and entertainment of Pakistani, Bengali, Indian and other South Asian cultures. Enjoy live music, incredible performances and try out arts, crafts and activities – there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.  

As you can see, there really is something for everyone this month - so get your mates together and your bookings in!
