The County Hotel is once again saving us the hassle of cooking (and all that washing up!) with a festive three-course feast and glass of fizz this Christmas. Choose to dine in their luxurious Mozart Suite or County Suite, or the gorgeous surrounds of The Hudson restaurant, and enjoy starters like king prawn and crab cocktail, mains including the classic turkey with all the trimmings and desserts like traditional Christmas pudding.

Hotel du Vin & Bistro, City Road
Christmas Day lunch is pure indulgence at Hotel du Vin & Bistro and their menu is sure to have foodies festively drooling. Starters like marbled game terrine with spiced fig chutney are followed by the likes of roast turkey and pan-fried turbot served with festive trimmings and nobody will be passing on dessert with treats like warm sticky figgy pudding to feast on. With a glass of champagne on arrival, a post-starter gin and tonic sorbet and a selection of crackers, mince pies and clementines to share after your meal, there won’t be any empty bellies after Christmas at Hotel du Vin.

Miller & Carter – aka the Masters of Steak – are offering a four-course Christmas day menu that’s positively mouth-watering. A bread and olive grazing plate kicks off the festivities bookended by tempting starters including honey-glazed ham hock terrine and indulgent desserts like Belgian chocolate fondant. The main affair features options including pancetta wrapped turkey ballotine with all the trimmings but you can always go for what Miller & Carter do best instead – a big, juicy steak.

Royal Station Hotel, Neville Street
Royal Station Hotel’s grand Victoria Suite is hosting Christmas Day this year with a four-course lunch starting in style with the likes of cauliflower soup or pork, game and black pudding terrine. For mains, a traditional turkey roast competes for attention with dishes like pan-fried sea bass or carrot and spinach risotto and diners will be spoilt for choice come dessert too – caramelised pineapple tarte tatin anyone? Make sure you save space for the grand finale of mince pies with tea and coffee. After all, it wouldn’t be Christmas Day without a mince pie would it?

Gino D’Acampo Quayside, Close
With gorgeous views of the River Tyne, this destination dining spot is a real crowd-pleaser any time of the year but its festive décor certainly adds to the magic. Their Christmas menu is always hotly anticipated as its talented chefs whip up dinner with a delicious Italian twist – think dishes like turkey escalope with crispy Parma ham and Baileys panna cotta. Guests also get a glass of prosecco on arrival plus freshly baked Italian bread to share and their kid-friendly Bambino menu is sure to please younger diners too.

The Vermont Hotel, Castle Garth
The Vermont Hotel has two Christmas Day lunch options – either in its Gold Room or Ballroom, or The Maven restaurant. Both offer three courses – starters like ham hock terrine, festive roasts to follow and desserts including sticky toffee pudding – but cough up a little extra to dine at The Maven and they’ll throw in a kir royale and canapes when you arrive and some mince pies and coffee before you go. We’re sold.

Malmaison Bar & Grill, City Road
Christmas lunch at Malmaison Bar & Grill makes the build to the big day worth it and promises festive dining you won’t forget. Sip on your complimentary champagne as your table shares a tempting crispy potato pave and contemplate which starter you’ll have – will it be the tiger prawn and fennel bisque, or maybe the mulled wine cured salmon? Go traditional with turkey plus trimmings for your main or branch out with grilled trout served braised white chicory, kale and orange and dill gremolata. And for dessert? The festive trifle has our bellies rumbling, but leave some room for post-meal chocolate truffles and coffee too.
