We know, we can’t believe we’re talking about Christmas in Newcastle already, but you need to plan early for days as important as this! If over boiled sprouts and dirty dishes aren’t your thing, let Newcastle’s dining experts save you all that stress and relax into Christmas with fine food, family and friends at some of these great restaurants.

Gino D’Acampo, Quayside

With its beautifully open plan restaurant and floor to ceiling windows this destination dining spot overlooking the iconic River Tyne is a real crowd pleaser anytime. The festive décor and lighting only add further to enhance the magical mood. Their Christmas menu is always hotly anticipated as the chefs turn their considerable skills to creating sensational seasonal dishes packed full of traditional flavours. Be sure to check out their Christmas meals menu when they’re available later this month and book early to ensure your place at the table.

Marco Pierre White at Indigo Hotel, Fenkle Street

Book now for your magical festive dinner at the world-famous Marco Pierre White Restaurant at Hotel Indigo and it’ll be just like ‘the ones we used to know’ with five top quality courses. Start off with pea and ham or pea and mint soup followed by a second course of roast beetroot and goat’s cheese salad, Marco’s game scotch egg or a classic prawn cocktail. For the main course there’s fillet of beef, escalope of trout, roast turkey with all the trimmings or gnocchi pomodoro and then on come the desserts with indulgent dark chocolate mousse, sticky toffee pudding, apple and almond crumble or a Union Jack cheese plate. A final serving of espresso affogato, or a vegan alternative, makes for a sumptuous Christmas celebration meal.

As You Like It, Jesmond

This elegant Jesmond favourite is set over three sprawling floors and features four bars with extensive choices and a beautiful restaurant and garden terrace, perfect for festive party nights with family, friends and work colleagues. As You Like It’s Christmas menu is imminent, with all the attention to dishes packed with flavour that you’d expect, so make sure to reserve your places in plenty of time!

The Hudson, Neville Street

The Hudson’s recipe this Christmas is to indulge and catch up with family and friends with a traditional festive menu including some signature twists from 28 November–30 December. On Christmas Day there’s a three-course Festive Feast which kicks off with a glass of champagne and starter of either artichoke and chestnut soup, lobster and prawn seafood cocktail, chicken livers or smoked salmon. They're followed by mains of turkey with all the trimmings, sirloin of beef, mushroom and chestnut pithivier (that’s ‘pie’ to you and me) or roast monkfish, before finishing off with a choice of luxurious desserts - choose from Christmas pudding, sherry trifle, artisan cheese board or salted caramel chocolate brownie.

Malmaison, Quayside

Christmas season is given a Malmaison twist with everything from party nights with your besties to Boxing Day brunch with the family. Their Christmas day menu is suitably indulgent and includes a glass of champagne (or mocktail for the kids), starters of roasted curried parsnip soup, treacle cured salmon, beef fillet carpaccio or stilton and beetroot salad and main dishes like turkey breast with all the trimmings, beef fillet, pan-fried halibut or mushroom and root vegetable pithivier. Add a dessert of sticky toffee Christmas pudding, black forest trifle, dark chocolate torte or Le Fromage cheese selection finished off with coffee with amaretto chocolate truffles and Malmaison is sure to make your festive plans sparkle!

Miller & Carter, Mosley Street

Miller & Carter – aka the Masters of Steak – are offering a five-course Christmas day menu that’s positively mouth-watering. Canapes kick off the festivities followed by tempting starters like gin-cured salmon and smoked duck salad, while main courses include classic Miller & Carter steaks or more traditional options like hand-carved turkey breast. Desserts are just as tempting with dishes like mandarin sponge pudding and billionaire chocolate bar and the festive dining experience is bookended by luxury truffles and macaroons served with a choice of tea or coffee.

Royal Station Hotel, Neville Street

The Royal Station Hotel’s Empire restaurant hosts Christmas day this year with a four-course lunch starting in style with celeriac and chestnut soup, smoked salmon roulade, goats cheese filo parcels or quinoa and kale salad. For mains there’s a choice of roast turkey with sausage, slow cooked rib-eye beef, pan fried salmon or Moroccan style vegetable tagine parcels. Desserts include traditional Christmas pudding, poached pear tartlettes or raspberry eclairs with meringues and relaxing with a final serving of tea, coffee and mince pies.

The Vermont, Castle Garth

Have a magical traditional Christmas at the Vermont Hotel and let them take care of all the hard work. With festivities throughout December and New Year, join them for Christmas Day lunch in the Maven. Canapés on arrival are followed by a three-course lunch that kicks off with starters including pan-fried chicken livers and artichoke and chestnut soup followed by heart of mains like turkey with all the trimmings, roast monkfish and braised lamb shank. Complete your Christmas meal with indulgent desserts that include sherry trifle or salted caramal chocolate brownie.

Hotel du Vin, City Road

Christmas lunch is the main event in Hotel du Vin’s festive celebrations - the best meal of the year! Diners will be spoiled for choice with starters of celeriac, hazelnut and truffle soup, smoked duck breast salad, treacle cured salmon or beetroot and cream cheese terrine, before moving onto mains of roast turkey, beef wellington, baked monkfish or caramelised onion, squash and spinach pithivier. Extra special dessert choices include figgy pudding, chocolate bomb, raspberry and elderflower trifle or assiette de fromage, before rounding things off with crackers, mince pies, tea and coffee if you still have room!

Babucho, Lower Dean Street

Nestled between Newcastle’s shopping district and the river front in the heart of the Quayside, Babucho blends its New York-style brasserie menu with Christmas classics this year to offer a 3-course festive dinner with an added prosecco bellini. Starters include mushroom and goat cheese, winter bruschetta, roasted tomato soup, chicken liver parfait, calamari or tempura king prawns. There’s a wide selection of main dishes including festive special roast turkey, crispy duck, lamb shank, roast salmon, seabass gremolata, slow cooked beef, pizzas or salmon rigatoni. If that’s not mouth-watering enough then a dessert choice of Christmas pudding, chocolate mousse, chocolate truffles, cherry cheesecake, panna cotta or traditional chocolate tart should have you salivating.

So there we have it: a literal festive feast of flavourful options for everyone in Newcastle! Which one are you choosing for your Christmas dinner in the city?
